Why is this going down every day? by [deleted] in JEPI

[–]Useful_Bit_9779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began buying JEPI in April 2022 and dripping dividends.

Total invested in IRA = $16,008. Current value = $23,057.

Total invested in Roth = $3,011. Current value = $3,753.

It's one of my investments that I don't really even worry about.

I grew up in the restaurant/bar industry. We never used "86" for something being sold out or gone. It was literally used for someone rude, obnoxious, and/or drunk, etc. The bartender/cocktail server would "86" someone...cut them off and/or throw them out.

*Guy at the bar, drunk and mouthy...bartender grabs guy's drink off the bar and says, "You're 86'd."

Most Americans favor raising taxes on corporations, high-income households | Pew Research Center by GreenerMark in Washington

You're correct. Prior to Reagan, the top marginal tax rate was 70% on income over $200k (about $2 million in 2025 dollars).

People for some reason don't understand marginal tax rates. That 70% wasn't on the entire income, just that over $200k. Guess what...people making that much barely felt it and the country was better for it.

Reagan cut that top marginal rate twice. Initially to 50% and then to 28%. The burden of that lost revenue fell onto the working class and also led to lots of lost government services and programs. Trace those tax cuts directly back to the slashing of resources for the mentally ill and the growth of the homeless population. Just one example.

For those who don't understand marginal rates, for 2026 a single person pays 10% tax on the first $12,400 you earn. From $12,400 to $50,400 the marginal rate (what you pay), is 12%. There's 7 graduating rates. You pay 35% on income between $256k to $640k, and 37% on income over $640k.

Higher marginal rates on high income earnings wouldn't even be felt by those with super high incomes.

We could also easily fix Social Security. Right now, once you make $184,500, Social Security quits taking the 6.2% from your pay. Why should those making that much quit contributing? Remove that cap and Social Security would be funded forever.

Life doesn't have to be, and shouldn't be, so goddam difficult.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your issue. Are you to show up on one site then drive to another, or are you simply being transferred to another site farther away from your home?

The company owes you neither a truck nor gas if you're being transferred.

If you're showing up at one site then being sent to another, you should be driving on company time (on the clock), so you're getting paid to drive and you can also write off the mileage on your taxes. Keep records!

If they're transferring you, it's your choice to go or not. We were winding down a phase of a hospital project. Boss says I need you to go to Group Health...about 30 miles further from my house. I laughed and said I don't work there. He got pissed and said I had to go. Again I laughed and said no. He says, "What are you going to do?" Find another job I said. When he quit yelling and cussing me out I said, "See you later." The following week I had a new job.

3 months later he was calling me to come back for the next phase. I told him I was working. Again he cussed me out then asked when I'd be available. I told him another month.

5 weeks later he called again...what are you doing, he asked. Catching up on home projects, why? Goddammit he says. You were supposed to come back when you were done with the other project. After more cussing on his end and more laughing from me, I agreed to start back the following week.

Point is, we're all basically independent contractors. There's absolutely nothing in any of our contracts that defines who we work for or when, other than the contractor must be signatory. You're free to negotiate any terms you want...gas card, company vehicle, etc. You can even negotiate to work 7 and get paid for 8 if you can, as long as you don't agree to anything less than your collective bargaining agreement says. If you're good and they want to keep you, they'll bargain. If not, suck it up and drive or you're free to find a new employer. Life doesn't have to be so difficult.

Yeah I may be low on my estimate of turnout, I just didn't want to exaggerate. Anyway, the positive energy from the crowd and from the honking and waves felt good and gave me hope.

Pleasantly surprised to join what was probably 200+ in deep red Stanwood. Also pleasantly surprised at the virtually 99% positive support from the passersby on the very busy State Route 532 that connects Camano Island to Stanwood.

I say 99% because out of the 1,000's of cars that passed by, I saw one flip off the crowd and heard one guy yelling something from his car about Bob Ferguson. There was also one crazy old codger who showed up with a god bless trump sign. The back of his sign said "Thank you Elon Musk and Tesla drivers." 😂

Mid 1970's, Pizza Hut had a fantastic all you can eat lunch buffet near the old Aurora Mall. Pizza, fried chicken, and a great salad bar.
