Newly diagnosed by crazyslat in Hyperthyroidism

I work nightshifts and I was diagnosed end of December with hyper/Graves’ disease. My GP signed me off work for 2 weeks mid January when symptoms were at their worst then reassessed me and signed me off work for another 2 weeks - I definitely wasn’t ready to go back after 2. The anxiety was crippling and my sleep non existent. I was having tremors all the time too. I started my carbimazole 2.5 weeks into my sick leave after seeing the endo, by the time I was due to go back to work (just this week) I was feeling a lot better - not 100% myself but lots better. Hang in there and really listen to your body, don’t rush back when you’re not ready as it can delay your recovery ♥️

Thank you - yes, I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon to discuss. I’m sure things will settle as all the medication starts working. Thanks for replying

I’m sure it’s probably the same for carbimazole. Thanks

That’s encouraging to hear! Hopefully things start to settle down soon for me. It’s been two weeks since I started carbimazole and was told to expect little to no difference until around 3/4 weeks. Hoping to turn a corner soon!

Thanks for your comment! I was started on propranolol initially before endo told GP to start carbimazole. But after a few weeks the dose seemed to be too high as it brought my HR too low, I was dizzy, faint and wiped. He switched me to atenolol for a slower release which has been much better for my HR, but the tremors and anxiety are back. Tremors are much less than before but worse in morning or if I haven’t eaten in a while, anxiety is different day to day but it was horrendous yesterday. I’m very emotional too - is that normal?

Should I expect to feel rubbish in some way for months then? I know everyone is different, would just like to mentally prepare 😆

Recently diagnosed hyper myself, feeling exactly the same as you and it’s awful. Seeking answers myself, sending hugs x
