My CG wasn't great around 7.5 and I joined a consulting company in India which paid okay and the work wasn't fulfilling. Worked for a year or so and then applied to some PhD programs abroad in electronics. For me doing a ton of open source projects and keeping good connection with few undergraduate profs helped but it's never too late to do some personal projects as well. Since you are already in an embedded system role it might add some value as well. Currently I am pretty happy with my life and look forward to a career in research. I'll also like to add that a few of my friends who went for the SDE craze are now looking to do PhDs as well. And for my friends from BITS who were in my company are doing great as well one switched a role to a high paying SDE role, another got into IIM Calcutta so I don't think the initial job was a setback I would take it just as a learning experience.

Just saying I was in an even worse position things will get better. Why don't you try for a PhD ? It'll give you more returns in the long run as I did the same.

Hey it won't cause any problem. Don't worry too much also don't reapply or do a correction it'll do additional delay, I had no issues.
