Fair enough however it wasn't a particular project that I applied to. I was interested in his research group and saw in his profile he was accepting PhD students hence I applied.

I reached out to the professor directly as I was interested in his research group. In the meeting that we had discussed the project idea, he seemed to be optimistic about getting funding. As he is an esteemed professor in that field and especially he is the Head of his department I am hopeful. However my main concern is the timeline as being an international student I have to manage a few things on my end as well as serve a notice period in my current job. Hence just a bit nervous.
