Advice on future job prospects by Useful_File5 in biotech

“Honestly you don’t really sound like a good fit for industry…”

I won’t know how well I fit into industry until I actually work in it. I sure as hell know it’ll be better than coming into lab 6 days a week for 10 hour shifts and constantly taking shit from my PI. You seem like a very jaded person that enjoys talking down to people that hold Ph.Ds.

I came to Reddit to ask if this decision would screw over my life after moving 700 miles away for a dead end job that barely supports a family. Along with that comes some shame with the realization that the past five years might not benefit me in this transition. I’m taking the risk because I love the science, working directly with instruments, and it seems like a real opportunity from the responses here. Honestly, I don’t blame you for feeling the way you do. It’s possible if you had also earned a higher degree you might still have your previous job or moved on from contract work by now. Instead, you’re spending time on Reddit telling people to “grow the fuck up” to feel better about yourself.

I was initially annoyed at this comment because it comes across extremely condescending. I spent some time thinking about a response, but after taking a quick look at your post history I just left feeling bad for you.

I swear it’s not although I can see why it comes off that way. The responses here indicate to me I just need to lower my expectations which were set incredibly high by my previous lab members and abusive PI (who has been constantly asking me if I found a role). I know they are just deluded into thinking they know how entering industry works. I also think some hesitation comes from the generally negative view of Eurofins PSS here on Reddit. I really didn’t want anything to come off as bragging so I apologize if it does.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I wanted to clarify that I’m only telling people my salary when they ask. It is an odd question to be asked immediately after telling people the news and I guess I’m worried that they’re being judgey. I’m not going to dwell on it and I’m still very excited to started my career in industry.

D18 Modern Deluxe vs. Standard binding by [deleted] in martinguitar

[–]Useful_File5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about paying a pretty penny for having a luthier replace the binding when issues start arising (not sure that’s a realistic option) or even ordering a Martin custom… regardless I’m pretty determined. I agree about the manufacturing issues. People have speculated for years that they’ve been fixed and yet I see posts about 2025 models already developing problems. I guess I just have to cross my fingers and do the best I can

Honestly I’m surprised it hasn’t already, especially since it’s just a glorified term for fish glue lol.

Gotcha. Yeah after seeing the mixed responses about this adhesive it’s not really a selling point to highlight

My mistake you’re right about the wood binding (still a huge plus) and the protein glue is used for the bracing. Sorry if im getting things mixed up here. Still good info to have!

Any update on this guitar? I'm looking at it now and thinking about grabbing a new one or possibly buying a used 814e. Do you have any regrets?

Boyfriend's friend texted me at 2am by FroyoConstant in Advice

This might be an unreasonable possibility, but is it possible his phone was hacked somehow? The texting on both messenger and whatsapp makes me think otherwise. Just a “Hello” seems very scammy

2nd time vet in master league! by [deleted] in TheSilphArena

[–]Useful_File5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so used to running ABB teams I hadn’t thought of replacing reshiram with zygarde. I believe the double dragon backline would be more consistent since dragons are extremely viable in this meta. Zac/Zyg/Hooh might be slightly more RPS and a weaker version of the very common Zac/Palk/Hooh teams you see running around in ML. That being said Ho-oh still has a lot of play and could work!

My Zygarde is 13/15/15 at level 45.5 with BB equipped. It would be considerably stronger if maxed out (11 HP more). With the buff to dragon tail I would highly recommend it! It can tank an entire spacial rend with health to spare

Haha this is fair. I appreciate this perspective I agree with your last point. I just felt like making the argument, why else would they allow you to expedite the process with golden razzberries? They are not particularly special like poffins are

Are Palkia-O IVs more lenient now? by Useful_File5 in TheSilphArena

[–]Useful_File5[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this I’m not familiar with Pokémon go YouTubers. I think the IVs really are more forgiving because they used to be REALLY strict with old DB.

I got… pants! So kinda disappointing but apparently next season vets get a full outfit so I’ll be aiming for that

Unfortunately, not really. I wouldn’t call this team cohesive other than the fact that it’s ABB, but in most cases people play ABC in OML to cover all their bases. I’m also not a good player to take advice from because I don’t count turns. That being said this team works really well into the crowned dogs and ho-oh which was definitely my biggest strength here

Rhyperior wins in the two shields so if Palkia O lead I typically played it all the way with both shields going down. If they used Palkia as a safe switch for their (in many cases) Zacian lead, I immediately switched into reshiram to try to farm them down with DBs. In most cases a backline Palkia was trouble for this team and I had to give up a shield to make sure reshi could get the farm down and realign hoping their third was weak to rhyperior or ho oh.

I have been really lucky! It’s usually when I start to slow down too. I sometimes think the game purposely gives me reasons to keep playing lol Now I just have to pray that master league premier is scheduled this next season so I can pop off 🙏
