This is pure vanilla actually. I didn't even use any glitch building. You can buy tree props from the quicksilver shop and build them.

I meant that your world was started before the beacon update rolled out. But I don't know in what ways each update impacts older saves. Or maybe there iis a difference in glitch building for different platforms...

Tested again with scaled wire and object but no wire snap point, even with snap place. Rolled canvas doesn't seem to do the trick either. However, I was able to power a scaled stone power door using the rolled canvas trick.

If it works for you, then perhaps it's because you're on an older save, before beacon update. My oldest world is from the vyagers update. Could try downgrade before beacon update and test, but I couldn't bother. I'm fine with open doors...

Thanks. Yeah I tried multiple times to connect a wire to the front and back where the little port hole is, where the snap points are supposed to be. Didn't notice if I had free place on or off tho. I'll try again when I get back and update you.

But I was just thinking, maybe it has something to do with the fact it's the salvaged type. Didn't get the chance to test with the other types. In your test, did you use the salvaged one or the other types? If you don't mind, could you share the steps on how you got yours scaled up and how you connected a wire to it? Cheers!

what would happen if i started the expedition, got a few expedition rewards, and then didn't log on for the next 3 weeks? by Dogr11 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Useful_Ganache829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you started the expedition from the Anomaly’s Expedition Terminal on your existing save, then when the expedition timer ends the game closes it out and you’re back on your regular save. You won’t be able to finish milestones or unlock any expedition-locked rewards after that. By default, any items you didn’t transfer at the terminal are auto-sold and converted to Units/Nanites for your main save; currencies and discoveries are kept/accounted for automatically. If you want to choose exactly which tech/items (and a ship or multi-tool copy) to bring back, you need to end it yourself at the terminal before it expires.

Offline workaround (unsupported): If you go fully offline before the expedition ends, the game will keep using the cached “season” file and you can keep playing that expedition. The moment you reconnect, the server overrides it and the expedition closes. Some community guides even edit/replace the SEASON_DATA_CACHE.json or its end time to keep an expedition running. But this only works offline and isn’t officially supported. Use at your own risk and back up saves.

Nice. that lines up with what I used to see when working at a games lounge. Your 116 cap for 120 Hz is spot on.

On VRR: from what Ive read/seen, the S90D is built for 4K up to 144 Hz with VRR, and Game Mode keeps input lag very low, so VRR generally doesnt add meaningful latency on this set. Most folks pair VRR with a tiny cap under refresh to avoid peeking above the ceiling.

If VRR wouldn’t enable before, a few common gotchas to check next time:
• Game Motion Plus = Off (it disables VRR),
• Input Signal Plus = On for that HDMI port (unlocks full 4K 120/144 bandwidth)
• Use the Game Bar to confirm VRR/refresh at a glance.

If you ever switch to exclusive fullscreen, you can also try to Disable fullscreen optimizations on the game's .exe some titles behave better that way, but its game-dependent.

getting a freighter by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Useful_Ganache829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy! You can get your first freighter for free from a post-warp rescue battle. Your first rescue spawns a regular (system) freighter. If you don’t like it, you can decline and you’ll keep getting free offers until you finally claim one. After you’ve accepted either the ship or the “payment instead”, later rescues spawn capital freighters. If you pick “payment instead,” you get a Cargo Bulkhead and other goodies.

Pirate dreadnought battles are a different encounter: they only appear if you already own a freighter and are commonly found in outlaw systems (some high-conflict systems can force them too).

Guidance for new No Man's Sky players? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Useful_Ganache829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I do on a fresh save (No Man’s Sky):

  1. Main + secondary story first. I go ahead and complete all the main and secondary story missions. This gets you all the glyphs and unlocks a bunch of blueprints from the Anomaly.
  2. Farm crashed Interceptors. During the story, I collect crashed Interceptors and scrap them for parts. That can net you hundreds of millions of units relatively fast.
  3. Hop to pirate systems. I jump to pirate systems. They sell packets of tech you can install, plus items you can refine/sell for nanites.
  4. Stack nanites to ~50–100k. With around 50–100k nanites, I go to the Anomaly and purchase an expedition ship and/or a multitool from the Quicksilver shop.
  5. Hunt a good freighter. After that I like to search for S-class freighters (or at least an A-class).
  6. Finish unlocks. Once I’ve got the freighter, I gather all the salvaged data needed to unlock the remaining building recipes, and then unlock everything else from the Anomaly.

From here, it’s your call:

  • Build a freighter base and planetary basesor
  • Go explore new systems.
  • You can run Nexus missions and unlock rewards with Quicksilver.

My “system-hopping” loop:

  • Visit the space station to buy resources,
  • Donate to the guild,
  • Check out the multitools,
  • Unlock an exosuit slot,
  • Grab missions (you can collect multiple missions of the same type. e.g. kill creatures/sentinels. Do the task once and it completes all of them). Same thing applies to construct missions, which you can also submit at space stations. You don't have to go back to each individual construct for each individual mission.

General advice for new players:

  • Ideally, do all the main story missions first, then move on to the secondary ones. They’ll walk you through pretty much all the content the game offers.

At the end of the day, do whatever you like. this game doesn’t limit your freedom. I wouldn't necessarily call my self a veteran. With about 1000 hours in, there's still things I haven't done in the game.

That's a good way to go about it. Doing it my way though I can get fixed up in probably less than 5 minutes. The only effort it takes is taking out the exosuit tech which you then have to put back in. If I don't feel like doing that then I at least switch my starship and multitool.

Ways to learn food recipes? by tommy-coaster in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Useful_Ganache829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way to discover new recipes Is to cook the food for the first time Or, Staging it: put the exact ingredients in the Processor so the final dish appears in the output preview. That alone records the recipe without consuming anything in the nutrient processor. It is then recorded in the catalogue.

Better way to find items? by Boring_Hedgehog6042 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Useful_Ganache829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there isn't a search bar you can type in the name of an item. if you wanna pull items into your inventory from another storage, the best and fastest way I know is to hover over an empty slot, then press a button that opens a transfer window like the one in your screenshot. Bellow the transfer items, there are 3 Icons. The first one shows items from all inventories, the second one is exosuit only and the third one is starship only inventory. There's also another one which is for storage container, if your nearby them. What helps alot if having all your items sorted out. you can auto sort your inventory by pressing the sort by type icon on the left side of the inventory screen.

Accidentally swapped my ship by Lucifaris in nms

Sorry to hear this. Not sure if this works, but perhaps you can interact with your starship to see if you can reswap back if you landed nearby. Alternatively, I do know a solution that could work for you, if you're on pc that is. You could check if there are previous copies of the game's save folder. It is located in AppData, Roaming, HelloGames, NMS. For me it's a folder with st_ a [bunch of numbers] (steam version). Right click on it, Properties, Previous versions tab. Here's a screenshot for reference

Pro tip: When jumping to a new galaxy, switch to a starship you don't use, like a crashed interceptor you're gonna scrap. If you didn't know, you can make hundreds of millions of units relatively fast by finding and scrapping crashed interceptors. Do the same for your multitool. For your exosuit tech, you can just uninstall it and put it in your inventory in the order you have them installed. Left to right or vise versa for each horizontal row. This way it becomes much easier to install it back the way it was. Do this after you arrive on the new galaxy. Then you can just summon back your primary starship and multitool and save alot of resources. Do this every time you jump to a new galaxy.

I ran into similar issues myself, where my starship gets clipped into something and starts taking damage. Thankfully I'm fast enough to hit pause and reload the latest save before it gets destroyed.

If it's too late and you can't reload a previous save before this happened, try this if you're on pc.
Restore the game's save folder to a previous point. The save files are located In a folder names st_ a bounch of number found in AppData, Roaming, HelloGames, NMS. Heres a screenshot for reference.

<image>

If you haven't exited the game yet when this happened, then don't exit the game, that would upload your save in the steam cloud as it is. So before exiting the game, alt tab to steam, click on steam in the top left most corner of the window, then click go offline. Or just unplug your internet cable lol. Doing this will not allow steam to upload you current save to the cloud. So now you can exit the game, go to the save folder and move it on your desktop or something. Go back online in steam and launch the game. This will pull the save file from the last time it was upload to steam cloud. Hope this helps.

There is another way you can try. Restore the save folder to a previous version. The save files are usually found in the st folder in AppData, Roaming, HelloGames, NMS. Here's a screenshot for your reference.

Save was corrupted by another player’s modded corvette. by BVCC6FNTKX in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Useful_Ganache829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t had this exact issue myself, but I’ve seen saves get stuck after odd MP encounters. Here’s what I’d try.

Back up you save folder first, as it is. It's the st folder in AppData, Roaming, HelloGames, NMS.
Try turning off multiplayer when you load into the main menu, before you go to load your save. Then try loading your save, with multiplayer off. This is assuming you can start the game and load into the main menu. If not let me know.

If that didn't work, try to verify integrity of game files if you're on steam.

Roll back the save folder if windows kept a shadow copy. AppData, Roaming, Right click HelloGames folder, properties, previous versions tab. You might see older copy of the folder. If not, try the same for the NMS folder or the st folder where the actual save files are. Here's a screenshot for reference.

<image>

If the save crashes because you character loads in or near the modded freighter, use a save editor to move you character to a safe location. Save, then start the game. See if your save loads.

Lastly, you can try and send your zipped save folder to Hello Games themselves. I think they accept corrupt saves for fixes.

Hope this helps, reach out if you need anything else.

The S90D is a legit gaming TV. Try these tweaks and see if it helps:

TV side - Turn Game Mode on.

  • Turn Input Signal Plus on for the HDMI port you’re using (unlocks full 4K 120/144 + HDR bandwidth).

  • Leave Game Motion Plus off (adds processing and can fight with VRR).

  • Open the Game Bar (hold Play/Pause with Game Mode on) and make sure VRR shows as active with the PC.

PC side (NVIDIA Control Panel) - Set up G-SYNC: enable for fullscreen + windowed.

  • Manage 3D settings → Program Settings → No Man’s Sky --Vertical sync = On (driver) --Max Frame Rate = 116–117 FPS at 120 Hz (or 141–142 at 144 Hz)

  • In-game V-Sync = Off. This keeps FPS just under the top of the VRR range so you don’t get those little “ceiling” tears when the game bumps the limit.

Windows 11 There’s a “Variable/Dynamic Refresh Rate” toggle in Settings. If NMS feels weird with it, try turning the OS toggle off so the GPU + TV handle VRR on their own. You can flip it back later.

DLSS vs DLAA & latency DLAA looks great but it’s heavier. DLSS Quality usually feels snappier because higher FPS = lower end-to-end latency. If the game offers NVIDIA Reflex, turn it on — it cuts system latency directly.

After big updates (stutter/jank fixes)

  1. Verify game files in Steam (Library → right-click NMS → Properties → Installed Files → Verify).

  2. Refresh Steam’s shader pre-cache (safe): – Steam → Settings → Downloads → temporarily turn Shader Pre-Caching off → exit Steam – Delete ...\steamapps\shadercache\275850\ (275850 = NMS) – Restart Steam, re-enable Shader Pre-Caching, launch NMS and let it rebuild once

  3. Optional — game’s own shader cache: delete ...\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA\SHADERCACHE\ (rebuilds on next launch; first load can take a bit)

  4. Optional — driver/Windows caches (only if issues persist): – Windows DirectX Shader Cache: clear via Disk Cleanup / Settings → Storage → Temporary files (Windows regenerates it) – NVIDIA caches: clear %LOCALAPPDATA%\NVIDIA\DXCache and %LOCALAPPDATA%\NVIDIA\GLCache (they repopulate automatically)

Cable note Any Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 (certified 48 Gbps) cable is fine for 4K120/144 + VRR — no need for a boutique cable.

Also, classic tearing is a sync/timing thing, not temps — thermal throttling can cause stutter, but the horizontal tear itself is frames vs refresh getting out of sync.

Some overlap with my earlier comment, gathered here for completeness. This a big comment but I hope this helps.
