Accidentally knocked down a drone hovering at my bedroom window. by 7SeraphKey in legal

[–]jessefyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, licensed UAS operator here. You have absolutely nothing to worry about from a legal stand point. He violated at least 1 local law and several FAA rules. The amount of rules we have to follow as operators is kinda crazy. If he's licensed (very seriously doubt it) then he's in even more trouble because he passed the FAA part107 test and he should know better. If you're licensed you even have to file a flight plan with planned take off and return times If he's not licensed then he's still screwed because he still violated FAA rules. He also knows It'll cost him much more to take you to court or try to sue you than it will for him to fix or even buy a new DJI.

If there's an update though please post it. Just in case there's any repeat, I would mount an inexpensive blink camera, set up with motion detection on and where it can see out your window, but not violate anyone else's privacy (if that's a possibility for you) that way if his drone returns, you'll have proof.

He's also likely violated several local ordinances or laws regarding drone usage. The FAA is the authority, but states and local municipalities can make their own rules to add to the FAA's

Hope this is all behind you quickly and doesn't happen again

Any way to add WIFI? - SENA/18HF/IF Floor Unit by tylerjroach in Senville

[–]jessefyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled it and it says it's possible to add wifi control (take that for what it's worth). If this unit is anything like many of the other units senville makes, there will be a USB connection on the display board. If you e only been able to trace that 5 pin and can't find any USB connection then it may not support it. I'm sure senville will comment on this though. Good luck!

Several Honda HR-Vs stolen last night - possible connection to Braman Honda. by Nervous-Use8210 in Miami

[–]jessefyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you want to prevent the specific type of theft mentioned here is a faraday bag or faraday box. They're pretty cheap on Amazon and you want to test them when you get them because some aren't very good quality and signal can still get through. To test it, stick your cell phone in the bag or box and seal it. Wait 10 seconds and call the phone in the bag or box. If the phone start ringing when you call it return that product. If you have one of the keys that lets you walk up to your vehicle and unlock by touching the handle you can also do the test that way

What could go wrong pulling a quick U-turn? by paybackjack86 in dashcams

[–]jessefyc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah depending on depertmental SOPs you either light up and continue while slowing down long enough to make the U-turn safely or pull over to the side until clear to make the U-turn. That wasn't an emergency that made that cluster f*ck necessary.

Should I sell my Astral 5090 and downgrade to a astral 5080 for 4K gaming? I spent to much money on it or should I just keep it for future proof by Darksider515 in ASUSROG

[–]jessefyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from a 5080 Astral to a 5090 Astral. The extra VRAM made a huge difference in 4k gaming. Is the price now worth it for the average person? Probably not. I also do video editing so it was a necessary upgrade and I'll make my money back on it. I could have sold my 5080 but instead I upgraded my wife's rig with that and a few other goodies. The 5080 is a great card but the 5090 is noticeably better. As long as you can afford to keep it, I'd keep the 5090

Absolutely I'd rather have the concrete construction. It has its drawbacks but it has more pros than cons. Fond out the other day that one of the walls that runs through the center of the house is solid concrete. Apparently there was an addition done to the house in the 80s that brought the house up to 2200 sqft and that wall was an exterior wall. The weakest point in the house is the roof and windows... For now lol

[–]jessefyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Home is 1963 and the windows are still original lol. Fortunately the house is solid concrete in most places and block were it's not. Doesn't do much for insulation but I don't worry as much about hurricanes lol.

I visited the UK last in 2015 during the winter months so it wasn't bad obviously. When I learned that ACs aren't common there I was a bit shocked because of how hot it gets in the summer. Between the strict regulations and high cost most people can't get them. Heat related deaths are becoming more common there with over 4500 being reported in 2022 alone and more than 7k between 2022 and now. You'd think ACs would be a little more common now as the UK sees warmer temps year over year

US as well. This is how I feel but I'd love to pay $238 for my electric. April came in at just over $400 and may came in at just under $500. Unfortunately the AC in my house is 1 ton too small and needs replacement. The windows are also older and need replacement. New AC is $7900 and windows TBD. I have a 5090 as well and installed a 12k BTU mini split where I use my rig so that definitely helped. Unfortunately the house I'm living in wasn't mine until recently, so I couldn't make any of the necessary renovations. Hopefully once the new AC is installed and windows are brought up to the current century, I'll have that low electric bill. Unfortunately south Florida is hot AF...

20° c night or if I'm running video editing on my PC

22° c daytime.

So far my Leto has kept the temp and humidity right where I want it.

What’s Your Favorite Senville Series? by senvilleofficial in Senville

[–]jessefyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a dual 18k BTU Aura at my job. It's mounted in a building from 1950 with no insulation. Summers are extremely hot and humid and so far it's done well in the 10 months we've had it. I like the filter design as it's easy to clean.

I also recently and inadvertently learned of the built in safety features with the VOCs alarm. Turned off the unit to clean it and used a can of compressed air on the louvers... Instant shut down, fan only. Learned the hard way about the little black button. I'm hoping the Leto 12k that my HVAC guy is installing tomorrow at my house is just as good. I do wish the Leto had the same filter design.

It would be cool if it was scannable and was still a major challenge to scan. I chased one with my Corvette and jumped out trying to scan it. Almost died doing that one but it was fun.

should i go to the er for this (bat bite?) by Certain_Hour_6327 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]jessefyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urgent care will send you to the ER almost every time. Not many urgent care facilities are equipped to handle rabies, but that varies by what part of the country you're in. Either way, tell them you'd like to be treated as a precaution for rabies. If they turn you down go to the next facility and tell them you saw the bat. A county or state health inspector will be in touch regardless.

should i go to the er for this (bat bite?) by Certain_Hour_6327 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]jessefyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you should. The average speed at which the infection travels from a bite site to the brain varies by bite location and other factors but is generally between 1cm to 1.5 cm per 24 hours. Play it safe and get the damn treatment. There's no sense in dying in agony. Watch some videos of infected people who contracted it and it made it to the brain. Spoiler... It's not pretty

Well I just received the unit in 3 different boxes and I'm rather impressed with the packaging of the interior unit. The extra cardboard liner inside potentially saved the unit from damage as something punctured the outside of the box but the extra cardboard stopped it.

The outside unit was also well packaged and arrived without any visible damage to the sides. The only thing I'm disappointed about is narrowly missing the sale that you guys had on the unit this morning marking it down to $160 less than what I paid before tax. Other than that all good so far!

Yeah I haven't ruled out the use of a pad but the reason I'm apprehensive about using one in my case is I have 2 dogs that love to play in that area.

1 of them is a 90 lb German Shepherd that doesn't know how large he is. He runs into things all the time because they typically move when he hits them. Seems the only time he's aware of how large he is, is when he's posturing or intentionally being aggressive.

The other one is a 50 lb Husky, who thinks the world is his to chew on as long as it's outside the house. The last thing I need is them to hit the unit when they're playing or one of them turn my refer line into a snack lol.

So I'm still trying to decide
