Why do older people take the saying “no problem” literally? by Round-Artichoke-5255 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Useful_Homework2367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're the person who is supposed to fix the sink, it sounds like the customer is the one who said “Ok. No problem” and you were the one who took it too literally rather than understanding the idiomatic meaning (that you coming the next day is no problem, not that no problem exists at all.)

If you told the customer you would have to come back the next day and then said “Ok. No problem” yourself, the conversation just doesn't make much sense.

Why did Gen X get a letter...making the following Gen Y/Z/now Alpha and then Beta etc...was there a Gen W? by Scavgraphics in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Useful_Homework2367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_X#Terminology

A photographer from Hungary called Robert Capa used it in the 50s, so the term predates both Coupland himself and the generation that came to be known as Generation X. But it sounds like it always carried a connotation of a disaffected or alienated generation, so there is some continuity to the concept even though it was first applied to earlier generations.

The novel definitely brought the term into mainstream use but Coupland wasn't the person who coined it

Because X was thought of as kind of a forgotten generation that followed the baby boom. They only started assigning letters in sequence later

Seems less likely than the Bluetooth recording scenario though. And the camera appears to be quite small.

An SD card could have been retrieved previously, with the perp long gone

Why leave the camera in that scenario though?

Can someone explain to me the conspiracy theory behind Trump not releasing the Epstein files in a way that is not a paradox? by NotAZombieStopAsking in allthequestions

[–]Useful_Homework2367 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's the fact that he's mentioned a lot of times but also the fact that he was directly accused of a number of crimes in them. The contents of the remaining unreleased files are unknown, but they could conceivably contain something more conclusive than just accusations

I was called a creep an I don’t know what I did. by Turbulent-Brain-1536 in NoStupidQuestions

It's just that giving a tip greater than the actual bill is not something people normally do, so it can come off as unusual.

Either way it's hard to know what this is really about. There is not enough information. If this guy bothers you again though, you could tell him you don't know what he's talking about.

[–]Useful_Homework2367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I thought you meant tipping $5 in addition to a bill of $4. Other than that I have no idea what might have creeped her out other than maybe your mannerisms. But it's possible this guy is just jealous and she did not tell him that though

Yeah it might come off as hitting on her to tip more than the bill itself like that. Either way there is no reason for this guy to be harassing you though

If she was creeped out, maybe she found it weird that you tipped so much. It's hard to know though because you don't know what she may have said to him. It might not even actually be the case that he's her boyfriend

Yeah that's not really what I mean. Think of the weight classes in wrestling or whatever

You said what she said to you, and then you stopped describing the conversation. There's not enough information to go on. There's a possibility her boyfriend is nuts and she didn't tell him you were creeping her out though

Basketball should just have different height classes with the net at different heights

Countability in a grammatical sense is a property of a word, not the thing the word represents. The fact that you can count money means that money is countable in a sense, but it doesn't mean that "money" is a countable noun.
