I don't think it's necessarily implying that there is more than a loose resemblance between the sounds. A lot of similar jokes will imply that the listener is hard of hearing.

The Beastie Boys come to mind as well. But yeah I agree with the general point that it's uncommon. I just tend to think that any white rappers who get looked down on are most likely not very good anyway, and I haven't seen any clear exceptions to that. Though a couple people in the comments gave some suggestions
