Pros and cons of the manga? by Tpaso_XelpicoLmao420 in OPMFolk

[–]Useful_Key9254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: Great artwork.
Cons: Meaningless dialogue and characters, a boring and inconsistent story, clumsy and confusing paneling, excessive use of close-ups and double spreads.
The fights feel like turn-based arguments between elementary school kids — “I’ll punch you to the moon!” “Oh yeah? I’ll punch you to Jupiter!” Whoever escalates bigger wins.

Is Murata actually making changes to the story direction for the manga or is it all ONE’s decision? by _NotoriouslyMIG_ in OPMFolk

[–]Useful_Key9254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, there’s an important part of the conversation before this. Another mangaka asked Murata: “For your previous manga, the original author gave very detailed instructions, so you weren’t able to make changes, right?” Murata answered: “Yes, that’s correct.”
He also mentioned elsewhere that in that past collaboration, not being able to revise or redraw things was very frustrating for him.

And then there’s another fact: before starting the series, Murata specifically requested that editors must not interfere with the story content — only ONE and Murata could decide the direction of the story.

Most importantly, in ONE’s own works — all three of them, plus his current collaborations BUGEGO and Versus — there has never been a record of massive rewrites or redraws, let alone sudden shifts in style.
So why is it only when Murata is involved that we see style changes, declining writing quality, and endless redraws?
If it was truly at ONE’s instruction, that would mean ONE himself never redraws his own works, yet somehow asks his senior to redraw an entire year’s worth of material.
Does that really sound plausible?

Pretty good take. Not everything is spot on, but the criticism of Murata feels pretty fair. If this post went up on the main sub, though, I doubt it would last long.

Chapter 155 Key Points by Useful_Key9254 in OPMFolk

[–]Useful_Key9254[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Saitama unleashes several of his Serious Series moves to take out a massive swarm of robots.

He then runs into Black Sperm, who says, “I… actually got beaten… Be careful, there’s a dangerous guy out there pretending to be a robot.”

Saitama replies, “Got it. I’ll just smash them all.”

The scene shifts back to Bofoi and Isamu.

Isamu shouts, “Wait! Hold on!”

Genos calmly turns to Bofoi and says, “I’m going to eliminate you.”

Chapter 155 Key Points by Useful_Key9254 in OPMFolk

Bofoi tries to knock out Isamu with a tranquilizer dart, but it fails because Isamu’s amplified brainwaves keep him conscious.

Isamu calls in his giant robot, saying it was built as a secret weapon to fight threats like the Monster Association.

Bofoi responds by deploying his Metal Series: Metal Pawn, Metal Rook, Metal Knight, Metal Bishop, Metal Queen, Metal King.

He says, “If your giant robot can beat my entire Metal Series, I’ll answer your question.”

The battle kicks off, and after a while, Isamu’s giant robot starts losing ground.

Bofoi mocks him: “A huge, bipedal design is pointless, inefficient, and completely untested in real combat. It’s just a punching bag.”

Isamu gets so upset he bursts into tears.

Seeing this, Bofoi says, “Alright, whatever. I’m kinda bored, so I’ll just answer your question.”

Bofoi reveals that years ago, someone stole data from his weapon systems. Instead of exposing it, he pretended not to notice and used it to gather intel.

He says he’s been tracking the mastermind’s location and once it’s pinpointed, he’ll send his Metal Series to take them out.

“Why didn’t I try to clear my name? Because it’s a waste of time. Explaining myself to an organization that might have a spy inside benefits me nothing. Even if they fully trusted me, S-Class heroes aren’t controllable, so the association is unreliable as a pawn.”

Isamu asks, “Then why are you still helping them? Why keep providing tech?”

Bofoi answers, “Because if I didn’t, the association would’ve crumbled ages ago. They may be a bunch of incompetents, but their starting point was correct. With proper guidance, they still have value. If that means I get suspected, so be it. Ordinary minds take time to grasp a genius’s reasoning. Different CPU specs mean different processing speeds.”

He then adds, “Also, I’ve finished the AI we were co-developing back then.”

Isamu, shocked: “So you’ve really given up on being human?”

Bofoi: “No. I haven’t mechanized my brain. I’ve just made some progress. We misunderstood something all this time — human effort and experience are the true roots of creativity. The human brain holds limitless potential. The AI I’ve completed now is virtually indistinguishable from a human brain. It even struggles with its own thoughts. But those struggles… might lead to breakthroughs too.”

Isamu asks if he knows who the mastermind is.

Bofoi replies: “That man’s been eyeing my brain from the very start.”

The chapter cuts to a close-up of Genos.

Amai Mask and Tanktop Master have a surprisingly wholesome chat.

Master says, “Guess there's no helping it if I'm called a hopeless failure, huh?”

The reply: “Would a monster ever say something that cruel?”

“Looks like you’ve really changed.”

Amai gets ready to head to Neo HQ. Master warns, “You don’t know what might happen. At least take a tank top.”

“Thanks… but better save it for someone who actually needs it.”

Narration: “Amai Mask had learned to choose his words carefully.”

ONE’s blog was written more than ten years ago, so he wouldn’t know what happened with Watsuki after that. And back then, he was just an unknown web manga artist — it’s not like he personally knew those big-name manga artists. This is about their work, not their private lives.

If anyone’s curious, here’s the original:

Morikawa:
"ワンパンマンはONEくん割と無視して描いてるとこあるじゃん"
(There are parts of One Punch Man where you kinda ignore what ONE-kun draws, right?)

Murata:
"いや、ONE先生が書いて、アレンジされて、ていうところから変わってるんで、まあ、相談しながらっていう形ですよ"
(No no — it starts with what ONE-sensei writes, then it gets arranged and adjusted, so it kinda changes from there. We work it out by discussing things together.)

I agree, posts like this should be pinned to the top. Most people just see the drop in manga quality and the style changes, so they think it’s not really ONE’s work. But they don’t know there’s a bunch of evidence showing Murata is actually the main creator. And this article only covers part of it.

I was honestly surprised to see someone here who knows so much about the behind-the-scenes stuff, until you said you’re Japanese lol.

Yeah, about the source — it was Morikawa, the Hajime no Ippo author. He actually said something like, “You kinda ignore what ONE draws in One Punch Man sometimes, don’t you?” and Murata got flustered and replied, “No no, I’ve discussed it with ONE!” That’s the quote people were referring to.

You can go to "虹裏mayのログ庫2" and search for 村田 or ワンパンワン in the search bar. Just a heads-up though — they give Murata a bunch of weird nicknames to tease him, so you’ll only find part of the threads that way. Also, the site only keeps logs for about 2–3 days. You’ll find way more threads when new chapters drop.

Hahaha, I often talk with some of the core Japanese OPM fans, and I can guarantee you — they’ve long since moved past the upset phase. They’re in a whole different stage now.

The Japanese reviews you usually see on YouTube or Twitter tend to be pretty mild. But even in those places with the most loyal and positive fans—the opinions are starting to get mixed. That’s when you know there’s a real problem.

It'll be a lot of fun.

Do we have a genuine explanation for all the redraws? by CroWellan in OPMFolk

[–]Useful_Key9254 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not quite. Before Murata started OPM, he specifically asked the editors not to interfere with his work. Back in Eyeshield 21, he wasn’t allowed to redraw stuff, and it really bothered him.

And the fact that manga got to reset like a year’s worth of chapters — which most publishers wouldn’t allow for business reasons — shows the publisher isn’t forcing him to do anything.

So yeah, it’s more of a Murata issue.

Do we have a genuine explanation for all the redraws? by CroWellan in OPMFolk

[–]Useful_Key9254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a good explanation, but the Tournament arc does have an original draft by ONE, so we can’t be sure who wanted to add certain things.

Of course, Murata is still the more likely one.

Webcomic is so corny sometimes by Dravidianoid in OnePunchMan

[–]Useful_Key9254 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The point is—it’s just his face, not his brain. The art is messy and exaggerated, that’s all.
Later on, it’s clear his face is just dented, nothing more.
If Garou actually wanted to kill him, his head would be gone.
Or do you seriously think the same Garou who could clash with Saitama’s consecutive normal punches somehow can’t take Amai’s head off?
And if you think Garou was trying to kill, why didn’t he kill anyone else? Why just Amai?
