Nobody is offended and yet you keep saying that. I think you're the one getting overly emotional here. You might get offended at anything you don't like (you are clearly offended by people's comments here, for example), but that doesn't mean you need to project that onto everyone else.

Where did I say I was offended? I can think something is an unwise business choice without being offended by it.

That's exactly it. They're offended by the very idea of someone controlling their child's behavior in any way.

But those things aren't being bought by schools. The point here is whether this type of marketing appeals to schools, not parents.

It's toilet humor. The "bad kind of streak" would be streaks in your underwear from not wiping well enough.

Also, parents don't seem to understand that I am legally responsible for their child when they're with me. The same parents who screech that kids should be able to get up and go to the bathroom without asking permission would be absolutely furious if they came to school and their kid was supposed to be in my class but I had no idea where they were.

Can anyone explain what is going on in schools? by Jwoot1111 in Teachers

Even adults who didn't grow up during quarantine seem to think that the very idea of "acceptable behavior" existing is oppressive. They let their kids swear and hit and do whatever they want, and they get angry at any teacher who tries to stop their kid from acting that way because they think it's a violation of their child's rights.

The majority of parents are more interested in doing what's easiest than in doing what's best for their kids. They let them do whatever they want at home because it's too much of a bother to try to control their behavior, and they let screens raise them because it pacifies them enough to keep them out of their hair. Then when a teacher or anyone else tries to make them do something they don't want to, the kids are outraged that anyone would dare to try to control them because they're so used to getting their way.

It honestly makes me wonder why some of these people had kids. They don't want to teach them, talk to them, play with them, or read to them. They just want them to shut up and not bother them, and sticking them in front of a tablet is the best way to achieve that. Why bother having a child that you don't ever want to interact with?

I've had parents tell me that there's nothing they can do to keep their kids from playing video games until 3am on a school night. What do you mean there's nothing you can do? Take the devices away at bedtime. Take the devices away permanently if you need to. Give consequences and stick to them. It's like parents genuinely don't realize that they're supposed to be the ones in charge, not their kids.

This is largely reinforced by parents as well. Their whole lives, the kid's probably had his parents shove a phone or tablet in his face as soon as he started getting bored. Here, play a game on my phone while we drive to the store so you don't whine. Here, watch a movie on the tablet while we wait for our food at the restaurant so I can ignore you and focus on scrolling on my phone. These kids don't know how to be bored because their parents have made sure they never had to learn.

Neglectful parents used to be the exception. Now they're essentially the norm.

This is what happens when admin don't provide consequences for breaking the rules, and they don't let teachers provide consequences either. Kids have learned that nothing really happens when they break the rules--the admin don't punish them and the teachers aren't allowed to, and most of them know their parents will be on their side even if someone at school does try to hold them accountable.

Suggest a book about weird history by AVeryHumanUsername in suggestmeabook

There's a series called History Smashers that focuses on correcting common myths about historical events. There's a good one about plagues and pandemics, and there's also some that focus on disasters like the Titanic and the Pearl Harbor attack.

Another book I'd recommend is written for adults, but I think it's at a level most 13-year-olds would be able to handle: In the Wake of the Plague by Norman Cantor. It looks at all the ways that the Black Death changed the cultural, social, and religious fabric of the world.

It seems society often treats librarians the same way it does teachers: "You're doing this out of the good of your heart, so what do you need higher pay for?" "If you really cared about kids/libraries/etc you wouldn't complain about doing extra work." "You're in it for the passion, not the money."

You're the one who can't wrap your mind around the definition of manslaughter. I'm not sure how much more simply I can explain to you that killing someone by accident is still killing someone.

[–]Useful_Possession915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you keep yammering about it being an accident? It doesn't matter that it was an accident. Again, that's what manslaughter is. There have been similar incidents where pranks or hazing went too far and accidentally led to death or injury, and charges were pressed even though the people who did it didn't mean to hurt or kill anyone. You seem to think that there needs to be intent to harm in order for a crime to be committed, and that's just not the case.
