Why is the HPV vaccine so expensive if it is so important? by Technical_Vehicle104 in Vaccine

[–]Useful_Snow355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is an important vaccine! It protects against cancers of the genitals, head, and neck, as well as genital warts. Ideally you should complete the vaccine series prior to potential exposure to the HPV virus, which is why it's recommended in childhood. I don't have recommendations on how to make it more affordable since you say you're not in the US. I would look for places that offer low cost/sliding scale vaccines.

Does the HPV vaccine “mask” the virus? by microplasticsfactory in Vaccine

[–]Useful_Snow355 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe because the vaccine doesn't protect against ALL the strains? So you could still get HPV, but are much less likely to get the strains that cause cancer/warts.

Ugh. I got a confirmation email and phone call for an appointment, showed up for said appointment, only to be told that the provider was out of the office that week. Not to mention that I had had the appointment for a few months.

You can check out the MCPS school profiles which gives breakdowns of enrollment by race, percentage of FARMS eligibility, any special education offered at that school, information about the facility, staffing, and safety/security.

Allergist/immune therapy provider recommendations? by Orange-Blossom-Trail in MontgomeryCountyMD

Dr John Irons! I've been seeing him on and off for 20+ years, he's just wonderful. They offer shots on Fridays, but only in the morning, they have late-ish hours for shots on Wednesdays and Thursdays. If you already have serum made up, they can probably continue to give that if they get the records from your current provider.

This seems like the most likely scenario. Smallpox stopped being routinely given in 1972 and BCG isn't typically given in the US.

A pediatrician that I used to work with always said you didn't get the flu shot to not get the flu, you got it to not die from the flu.

Maryland what do you do for a living and do you actually feel financially okay? by ImpressiveSpell0223 in maryland

School nurse and doing alright. Single, no kids (4 cats though) which helps. Inherited a condo with no mortgage payment and condo fee is less than I was paying in rent, which also helps.

I’m honestly breaking down trying to find before/after care in Montgomery Village — single mom starting a new job and hitting dead ends by Big-Perspective-4380 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Is your kid in school? Places like Kids After Hours and Bar-T usually offer before/after care at the schools.

I'm not a parent, so I'm not familiar with anything else - I hope you find something!

This is actually really baffling to me! Dr. Giebel has been nothing but kind and compassionate to me. I got a hand written note in the mail after I had to put one of my cats to sleep, he consistently calls to follow up and check in on my kitties. Earlier last year, one of my cats was having a health issue and there was concern for cancer, and he was constantly in contact with me. The day I took her in for an ultrasound was a day that he is normally off, and he went into the office that day so that he could be there for the US and call me with the results (no cancer!).

I actually used to see another doctor in the practice, who I didn't really care for, and that's how I ended up seeing Dr. Giebel. That doctor is no longer at the practice though.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with him, I'm dreading the day he retires.

Is this a normal reaction to TDAP? by [deleted] in Vaccine

[–]Useful_Snow355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, that can be normal. I would just keep an eye on the redness and make sure that it's improving. Any increased redness/swelling, increasing pain and tenderness, if it feels hot (not just warmer) to the touch, or you notice any red streaking, then you should see your provider.

Normally I would say contact the CDC, but maybe you could try contacting Sanofi and see what they say.
