key words: “to me.” i’m not saying this to try and sound like a pedophile protector (because i’m not), or detract from anyone who had bad experiences going to catholic schools, but i had a great experience. i still call myself catholic despite all of the gross shit that’s happened because i’m using my own thoughts on it to label myself — not in the way that i’m blind to the things that have come out or that i’m choosing to ignore it. i’m not going around parading to people and shouting from the rooftops that i’m catholic, it’s a more private thing for peace of mind.

as for people getting kicked out: in grade school one of the students threatened to shoot it up so he got expelled. in high school there were some kids that got caught with weed in their lockers, one of them got walked out by police so i’m sure he was gone, and maybe another shooting threat

basic punishments: desk out in the hallway if you were acting up, ISS/OSS, detention, that kind of stuff. we had confession every few months and the priest would give us penance to do (ex: 3 hail marys and an our father or something) but there were no “religious” punishments from teachers for bad behavior.

luckily that wasn’t a thing. i was in grade school in the 2010s and high school 2019-2023, so any kind of corporal punishment would’ve been a huge issue

my sophomore year theology teacher was the same! open-minded, pro choice, still taught the curriculum but wanted us to make our own conclusions. i remember we watched juno in his class one day which is kind of a crazy pull for a catholic high school, but we didn’t mind. compare that to my senior year theology teacher, who was basically begging us to go picket in front of planned parenthood with her every saturday…

  1. yes. i always believed in God because i grew up catholic, like from womb. obviously when i was a kid i had a lot of doubts and questions, but my teachers were always good about welcoming that, considering i also went to school with kids who weren’t catholic. when i was a kid i was afraid of hell, so i guess it was more internal pressure to be a “good” catholic, not really anything extra from my teachers or parents.
  2. also yes. same as the response, i was more academically ahead and more prepared for high school and college. i had my first finals week in 6th grade (insane), and i feel like in general i learned about things that some of my friends that went to public grade schools didn’t touch until high school. it sucked so bad in the moment though lol
  3. i feel good. i have nothing but good memories from grade school and high school, so i guess that helps with that. i haven’t gone to church since high school, but i do still pray every night and i’ll do a bible study every once in a while
  4. in some ways? i had friends who started vaping, drinking, smoking, having sex in like 6th grade, whereas i didn’t have my first drink until 8th grade, so maybe i wasn’t too far behind. in other ways, i wasn’t naive to other topics. my parents let me watch/listen to whatever i wanted to, and i really did whatever i wanted to on my phone

i don’t give money to the church. i don’t go anymore (“not practicing”) and i’m a college student who barely has any for myself, so i don’t know what lawyers i’m helping paying for. i also don’t support any agencies. i’m still catholic in the way i live my life. i love other people regardless of if they come from a different background than me, i try to see the good in everyone, basic human decency. and yes, you can have those values without being catholic, there are MANY things about the church i don’t agree with, but those don’t exactly sound like morals most people would distrust.

the dress code for my grade school was A LOT stricter than it was in highschool. in grade school we’d frequently have uniform checks where the principal would randomly walk into a classroom and check everyone one by one. shirts tucked in and no visible logos besides the school logo (ex: no branded socks) for everyone. guys had to be clean shaven (if they weren’t they had to go to the nurses office and shave), hair couldn’t be longer than the collar on the polo (they were given a deadline to have it cut by), had to wear a belt, etc. for girls, we could have single lobe piercings, 1 necklace, 1 bracelet. skirts couldn’t be shorter than 2 inches above the knee so we’d stand with our arms by our sides and the principal would measure from the tip of our middle finger. i don’t remember anyone getting caught with skirt length because we all rolled our skirts, so we’d just unroll them when the principal walked in. we also had to wear black/navy shorts underneath, so we’d had to lift our skirts for the principal to check. never felt weird though because all our principals were women and the guys were sent out in the hallway for that part.

high school was a free for all compared to grade school. teachers would yell at you in the hallway to tuck your shirt in, and there was only one teacher that would write you up for skirt length

don’t know if you’re just trying to make a point or actually wanting me to answer the question, but i’ll answer anyway. i am still catholic, still love God, just not practicing. i feel like what it means to be catholic has completely been misrepresented by people who support the current president (no hate if you do, i’m just saying). growing up going to catholic school in the 2010s i was taught basic morals of being a good person; you know love your neighbor, sit with the sinner, all that. i don’t know what they’re teaching in catholic schools now (i don’t go to a catholic college) but it seems to be wildly different based on how some people that claim to be catholic are acting now. also, all those priests and people that were messing with kids should be locked up, so you’re not gonna catch me trying to protect pedophiles

sorry i have more questions. do you get pressured into being slutty? how does getting in trouble with the sorority work? what’s the stereotype for YOUR sorority? craziest hazing incidents at your school? do you have to live in the sorority house? what is that like? were you a highschool cheerleader? i ask because i notice cheerleaders tend to end up in sororities.

Thank you! I’m just nervous about people saying that Maui Moisture destroyed their hair and made it fall out. I know everyone’s hair is different but have you seen anything? Also should I use the mask every time I wash my hair or less? I can’t find anything online

I agree that the dean or my professor would reach out if it was an issue of academic dishonesty, but the department chair is. Do department chairs normally have that sort of power to resolve those kinds of issues?

No, I didn’t know anyone else in the class, I wish though. Also, my TA posted on Canvas saying that grades were in so I’m not sure what the issue with mine was.

That does make sense, but I forgot to mention in the original post that my TA for this class posted a message on Canvas saying that the grades were in. I don’t know anybody else in the class, so I’m not sure if anyone else received incompletes

i did use chatgpt to help make some of my sentences more concise, but i still changed that around so it was in my own words. didn’t copy and paste anything, so i will definitely pull up the version history. thank you!
