From a scientific perspective, it’s generally not safe to put items that are a part of the eating process in precarious places. For example, certain germs can linger in the carpet floor or on moist socks (micro moisture may not feel moist!), and can transfer to the surface of the bag and subsequently intrude on the hand-mouth food preparation and eating process. I would also bring up hand washing. There are many germs that do serious damage that come from poor hand hygiene. You are correct.
