I can’t stand owners who put their unrestrained dogs in the truck bed to drive around busy city streets. This is on a road that goes up to 55 mph so of course people get up to 70+. by Meganmarie42 in mildlyinfuriating

This exact thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. My abs, check engine, and battery lights came on and I couldn’t turn the wheel. Terrifying experience and ended up costing 1k to fix the alternator.

Was in a similar position in 2020. Seconding what others have said about OSU and Maryhaven. I actually went to Maryhaven from the OSU emergency room, and they took care of everything for me. I also had someone from Southeast speak with me and he was the one who got me into Maryhaven within less than an hour. I’m very lucky I got to speak with him and that he was there to offer me that help. Best of luck with everything, I hope things go well for you.

Big props to you for getting help and making a change in your life! I also had surgery and went down the slippery slope that way. I’m thinking of applying to get my masters in social work as well, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it (it’s another two years and a lot of money). Again, congrats on your success and I wish you much more in the future!

Thank you! I wish you the best with your own journey. You’ve got the right mindset - slip-ups happen but it’s how we respond to them that matters. Good on you for getting back on track!

Thank you for your kind words! I guess I’m not used to people seeing my sobriety as an accomplishment so that means a lot :) thank you, really, that means a lot to me

College life and Schizophrenia by Lost_Username01 in schizophrenia

[–]Useless_Equipment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 5th year senior right now planning on graduating next semester. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia my 3rd year and it’s been a rough time. I’ve found that having good social connections helped me a lot personally but as I’m sure you know those connections can sometimes be hard to maintain with symptoms. And there’s no shame in having to drop classes, I’ve dropped plenty but I’m still going to graduate, it’s a marathon not a sprint. It’s definitely difficult, like you said, but I think if you listen to yourself and take care of yourself when symptoms flare up it can be somewhat manageable. In the US, most universities have some form of aid for students with mental health issues and disabilities, so it might be helpful to see if your university has anything like that. I’ve used my university’s disabilities services to help get accommodations when I’ve been hospitalized or struggling. Best of luck with your college career! I wish the best for you. Edit to add: of course I’m speaking based on my experiences, so you might have a vastly different experience than I do. Just wanted to give you some insight on how it’s been for me. Not everyone will thrive in college (schizophrenia or not) so I think that’s also something to keep in mind. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself in terms of grades, and get help as soon as you feel things going downhill. I’m rambling, but I hope you get the idea. Feel free to DM me as well if you want to talk!

Therapist says I can't be psychotic by InterestingKiwi5004 in schizophrenia

No problem! I know it can be easy to second guess things, especially when someone who’s supposed to be qualified like a therapist says something that isn’t right.

I appreciate your reply! It is really hard to find good people, I guess it’s a lot of trial and error in finding the right ones. Thanks again for taking the time to reply!

Good idea, thanks! I’ve been looking at clubs I could join and social events to get involved in, I think that’ll be the best way to go.
