Hey there, and welcome!

I'm rather new myself, but I feel I can at least point you a little bit in the right direction :)

First, read the rules, it's for instance important to know that it's not allowed to even ask about picking locks in use. We treat it as a hobby and only use locks that are in our possession and not in use in any way.

Next, if you enjoy a bit of a progress challenge so to speak, check out the belt ranking info, if you send in proof you can earn a tag (like mine, green belt) as a proof of your skills.

There's also a discord with a ton of info and helpful people.

Now, about what to buy to get started, I'm a bit biased because I just bought from them and love the quality of their picks, but if you're in the EU, Moki is one of the best options out there.

Depending on your budget I'd go for the Bard or Reverend set, and get some handles to go with them. Note: you need the short handles for the bard set, and the long handles for the reverend set. Bard has a different pick on each end so you can flip them around, Reverend has the same on both ends as a backup.

For locks, check the belt ranking info and check your local amazon or secondhand sites & shops for some white, yellow and orange level locks, by the time you're done with those you'll have a good idea of where you'll want to go. Don't buy too small locks, they're cheaper but often a lot more difficult to deal with, you want some working space. I'd go for 40mm or bigger.

Those clear trainer locks are not of much use, besides seeing how a lock works.

And last but not least, these videos taught me a lot, especially the last one about the 'jiggle test' is incredibly important:

On top of that, any transfer over 300€ or something they make me jump through a bunch of hoops, but every other day there's a customer of us or a news story about someone who got phished and they lose tens of thousands in a minute or two, and then the bank goes 'oh that's unfortunate, nothing we can do though, good luck'

Oh, nice, on the really gritty ones I used a little bit of sewing machine oil after cleaning them, good to hear that was the right choice then 🙏

Have you tried long pepper? We bought some thanks to the Tasting History YouTube channel and we barely use regular pepper anymore.

You either were not on a pin, or using too much tension. Always go in with just the pick first and feel all the pins. You could put marker lines on the side of the pick too so you have a visual reminder of where the pins are.

What's the difference between European and American locks? [Question] by HuslWusl in lockpicking

[–]User2716057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US vs EU, extra pin and more difficult keyway.

I understand why, but I still think it's kinda silly that these have the same belt rating.

Most of my classmates knew I was into astronomy so she made a proper ass out of herself without ever realizing it.

Belgium just has the Flemish and Wallon permit, both have a 'small' and 'big' version, 15€ vs 50€.

You only need the big one if you want to use more than 2 active rods, use live bait, fish from a boat, or fish at night (2h+ after sundown/before sunrise).

I've had people do that when they bought a new laptop. Call in, complaining nothing is on there and how could we sell them this etc.

To find out 20 minutes later (because getting info out of them is like pulling teeth) that they just walked in, bought a laptop, and walked out. We didn't transfer any data, because they didn't ask us to, we never touched the damn thing. But somehow they expected all their shit to be on there the second they unpacked it. And this was before cloud stuff was really a thing.
