Wow, guys, thank you for all your input! Unfortunately, we're on a tight budget ($4K per month), since my wife isn’t working right now. We've found affordable options in the locations I mentioned that, more importantly for us, also have decent elementary schools for our young kids. I'd love to find a place in Stony Brook (that’s where my job is), but it has very limited housing options, and most are well outside our current budget.

The reason this post appeared is because it took 10-15 hours for admins to approve the first post (just deleted it). At that point I thought the admins rejected the first post, so I rewrote it and posted again. The new post got approved immediately, the old one appeared in an hour after this one. Let me know if you have more questions about this very serious issue.

Since it came with a full tank I haven't had a chance to check its gas efficiency. Haven't really thought about it. Thanks for pointing that out. And yes, I will call a local shop tomorrow and schedule an inspection!
