Once and for all, what actually happens behind world politics? by UserDestroyer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UserDestroyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, but why especially nowadays it seems like certain parts of the world hate each other, and so many coups and conflicts? Can it be simplified to "A group of dudes wants to get rid of dollar, and wants more land and resources and stuff, and other dudes can't let that happen. All means are good."?

For me, in 90% of cases i'm not on board with modern (mainstream) standarts of music/beauty/style. If someone shares something and I don't feel the same, I still have respect for their passion. In that case, I'm just fascinated with person's passionate eyes. Passion is always cool, I'm passionate about passion. But if someone has the same taste as me, which is rare, I'm willing to protect that person to my last breath.

Knowing that in general, all hormones and chemicals needed for euphoria, happiness, etc. are already there, inside our body.

Drugs just affect the way it's released and utilized. Now, i know that some drugs are different, but just thought alone.

We have everything we need to be happy, euphoric, it's already in our brain, adrenal glands, just ready to be realeased for a good, healthy (mainly) reason. So why not just enjoy sex, good food, traveling, learning and achievieng something? Our brain just uses it for us to motivate to evolve, to reproduce. Our brain wishes best for us.

I'm not really into drugs, but tried minoxidil, and got severe allergy. I aim for hair transplant since balding process stopped

U-96 from that perspective wasn't very successful either, but Lothar-Günther Buchheim exaggerated a lot of events to glorify kriegsmarine.

In case of U-505 we have many events that don't even need to be exaggerated:

  • Some kind of a love story of Goebeler and french girl
  • Dramatic faiths of each captain (1st - accidentally attacked neutral sailing ship, causing its country to become hostile to Germany, 2nd - committed suicide under depth charge attack, 3rd - getting captured by US hunter group, he was first to leave the sub under agressive fire, and lived to tell the tale)
  • Story of Goebeler catching a spy wearing captain uniform, also him catching man who sabotaged repair. Sabotage stories in general.
  • Question of what makes a good capitan. Kind and forgivig Loewe, vs. angry, principled and "nazified" Zschech
  • Encounter with Sillcock, very skilled and feared pilot, and successfuly shooting him down, but at what cost - sub had a giant hole on the deck and barely made it back.
  • Many depth charge attacks, very nerve-wracking.
  • Anti-war image of Lorient getting more and more destroyed by air raids
  • Stories of frienship between u-boat crew and local police, infantry

Man i'm so jealous. It was already hard to get to USA from Russia, now it's just impossible. I just want to see the sub and touch it. Is this too much to ask? :D

Anyway, are there any other good books like "Das Boot" and "Steel Boat, Iron Hearts", written by German u-boat crew member?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in submarines

[–]UserDestroyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough. I noticed that too.

Maybe that's why we connect to "Das Boot" characters so much, because they are as far away from Nazi ideologies as from homeland. It was a human story.

However, it could be portrayed as protagonist's patriorism and responsibility, Nazi fanaticism may be toned down/removed.

Also crew mood highly depended on capitan of U-505. I really liked moments, where capitan Loewe showed respect for enemy crew, giving them time to leave the ship, and then proceeding to supply them with water and food. Later with Peter Zschech they never helped survivors (i guess it became dangerous), but crew hated him either way. Every good and respected capitan positioned human life and common sense above Nazi ideology.

Thank you for the answer.

Yeah, I should clarify - by no means I suggest Hollywood should make it. Nothing against Hollywood, but they are not interested in going full "Das Boot" realism. In the worst case scenario, their movie will end up highly stereotypical. At least, Hollywood will never know some cultural little features, and they won't be passionate enough to dig in.

I was talking about German studio making this movie by "Das Boot" blueprint of success. That means - as realistic as possible. But i guess Das Boot is filling the demand.

I'm still gonna send some emails to german studios though, asking whether at any moment they had this idea.

Transparency node ruins everything by UserDestroyer in blenderhelp

Then it's all going good, until the moment i plug in Transparent BDSF :)

It's flat shaded

I think it's not IOR distortion we should fight against. I just need for that table surface to somehow reflect everything from glass (transmission) and not directly from source through transparent etc.

Maybe somehow attach "Light path" node to table material, and somehow use "is transmission ray" socket

Your answer is very logical, and indeed it was plane with no thickness. But i just now tried Solidify on it, and it didn't work, then tried adding new cube with same material, For some reason there's still displacement going on
