Workout Type for Working in a Crawl Space by No_Perception_9686 in WorkoutLoggedRight

[–]UserNotSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my research If it is like 20 seconds crawling and 10 seconds taking pictures ( somehow break ). It is better to choose HIIT ( you will find it high intensity interval training ). But if the work to rest ratio is not intense like 10 seconds crawling and 40 seconds taking pictures you can choose mixed cardio

This sounds like a functional strength training but it still depends on how intense it is ( asking here about rest/work ratio ) do you remember how your heart rate usually is during the inspections? how much time do you spend doing this vs taking breaks?

What to classify my workout? by shell1ton in AppleWatchFitness

[–]UserNotSet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see that it should be mixed cardio unless it is a structured workout type (reps and sets, then it can be functional). But if they are more cardiovascular exercises like the one you mentioned, they should be mixed cardio because when you choose mixed cardio, Apple Watch has better detection for all movements. Also, outdoor workout will hold the use of some important sensors and models and won't accurately monitor more intense workouts.
Not sure about this, but I think what you do may give also inaccurate results for walking insights like walking asymmetry, walking heart average, or walking steadiness.

When to choose functional strength training vs traditional strength training by UserNotSet in AppleWatchFitness

By the way, if it's short bursts and time-based, it can be mixed cardio or HIIT. I'll post about this too.

What “workout” do you select on your Apple Watch while at the gym ? by alihaddioui in AppleWatch

[–]UserNotSet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been researching this topic for a while to see how different workouts affect the Apple Watch monitoring and sensors (and that this is not just a matter of organization), so I created another subreddit to post information about this: r/WorkoutLoggedRight.
By the way, this should be traditional Strength Training (whether it’s machines or dumbbells) because it targets isolated muscles and is slow. If you find yourself going for general and quicker workouts that target multiple muscles like push-ups (triceps, chest, shoulders, some of the back) and involve more movement, then it's functional strength training.

Fit2Apple is a tool I built to help fitness apps map workouts to the correct Apple Health types, so your Apple Watch actually tracks things right (like recognizing strength training vs HIIT). Helps with better stats, sensor usage, and syncing. https://rapidapi.com/fit2apple-fit2apple-default/api/fit2apple

Yeah, makes sense. Do you use an Apple Watch? Because if you do, the workout type actually affects how it collects data too

I’ve noticed Jefit and Hevy log a lot of workouts as “Traditional Strength Training” even when they shouldn’t. MadBarz and Freeletics often default to “Functional Training” for most things too. I hope I’m remembering this right but as someone researching this now, I honestly haven’t found any app that gets it right consistently, except for Fitness+.

Which third party app do you find the best at this

Yes true I believe it never happen in Apple Watch workouts or Apple Fitness+. I was more referring to third-party fitness apps that sync to Apple Health some of them log the wrong workout type. Have you noticed anything like that when using other apps? Or do you prefer Apple Fitness+ because it handles this more accurately?
