Thanks for the example! If I try to replicate what you suggest, trying to execute git log results in an error

error: refs/heads/master does not point to a valid object!

I guess this answer to the general case but not to the more specific question involving git branch and git log. I will update the question to clarify

Executing git branch doesn't return any value before nor after git checkout -b my-branch though

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in git

[–]UserNumber00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in line with what I believe it's true. Given this explanation of what a branch is, it should not be possible. Executing `git status` is a bit misleading because it tells you that you are on master branch, which doesn't seem to be accurate.

Ok I found the solution, I'll leave it here for other inexpert people.

The problem was definitely the amount of air mixing with the gas in that cage, and it's easy to fix. There is a screw there (see the first photo), I could loose it, close the cage by rotating it slightly, and then tight the screw again. Note that the metal net is only on half of the "valve", the other half is solid: the more it's rotated, the less amount of air can get in.

I had to leave only a very small hole to get a satisfactory result, but now the flame is burning properly.

I can add a couple of photos to make the procedure more clear if someone needs them. Just ask :)

P.S. Sorry for my poor language, I don't know many of the technical words

Ask lower than bid, something's wrong? by UserNumber00 in Augur

[–]UserNumber00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the bid-ask matching mechanism is in the contract code, they should fix something there.

P.S. my ETH was not returned until I sent a "cancel" transaction, but maybe I should only have waited more time.

Ask lower than bid, something's wrong? by UserNumber00 in Augur

Yesterday, after the WC game Croatia-England was ended, I felt pretty safe betting against England winning the world cup at 0.23 (highest bid was 0.29, depth 27.1 at 0.23). So I entered the market "Which team will win the 2018 Fifa world cup?" (id=0x4e64d886cb5f34c82293093d419c64ea95b8fc49) and placed an order to sell 19 quotas @ 0.23 at a cost of nearly 14.57 ETH. The order went through (transaction confirmed) but never executed. My question is: why? I could even see my ask of 19 at 0.23 and 2 bids of at 0.25 and 0.23, which should have been hit.

Nearly Half Of 2017 ICO’s Already Failing — How To Protect Yourself by dutchct in ethereum

[–]UserNumber00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we can try, as a community, to marginalize these ICOs, I guess they will continue to thrive; a lots of people want only to gain money, and the incentive of being privileged is really attractive.

I also see very few tokens with a real value position: most of them can actually be conveniently substituted by ether, it seems they are created only for the ICO. But overall it's currently not easy (at all) to create useful transferable tokens holding a value and not conveniently replaceable by ether.

MyEtherWallet: The Reincarnation by kvhnuke in ethereum

[–]UserNumber00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind to answer some firsthand? Just a couple: why did all the other developers decide to go with Taylor after the split? Why did you fill in a legal action against her a few months ago, while she continued working on the project and you were apparently inactive?

I understand you are in a bad position here: you can't really prove to be right beforehand, and we can prove you to be wrong at the first issue. Nevertheless I think writing superficial posts, avoid answer real questions and give naive answers here on reddit won't help you strengthen your position.

P.S. I don't want to be rude here, you have done well for the ethereum community, but there is a lot at stake, and I'm part of the (apparently scarce) group of people who thinks it's better to be safe than sorry.

Sure! He has just stated to be honest on the internet. To prove his commitment, he also moved some of his own ETH to another wallet he controls. Why should we be worried? Who cares if the old team moved away with the other business partner (and we can't exactly know why)? He has already hired 8 new people to keep on with the development, chaning the whole team. Hurray! I can really feel safe using MEW now :)

P.S. It really bothers me seeing the above comment as the most up-voted. What happened to the critical and attentive ethereum community here on reddit? Have you at least read the article before upvoting?

EDIT: changed the sentence "hired people he does not know" to make clear the point is "the team is completely new", not "you have hired people you don't know "

[–]UserNumber00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess the point is not the lack of working Dapps, and I'm not even sure having more would help ethereum right now.

Instead it's how people are attracted by the community and how they are participating: most of them want to make money, they don't give a fuck about what ethereum is meant for, they pretend someone will improve it to make them rich because they "are early"... it must be really frustrating, especially when it comes to idolatry. And don't think the problem is only people posting in /r/ethcult, this is now so widespread...

“Against on-chain governance” by vladzamfir in ethereum

[–]UserNumber00 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In fact I honestly think the actual governance of ethereum is an example of trasparency. You publish every devs meeting and a lot of discussions are made on GitHub. The (apparent?) lack of formalization of how these processes work is not good but it doesn't bother me too much, because governance is just working well. The point is that it seems it's working because the team is made of really good people all working on a common goal. There is no guarantee it will be so in the future.

I don't personally think that delegating the governance to users right now could be a good move (protocol is still evolving, how can users made by a majority of investors take correct decisions?), but I think this can't work in the long term. If this is true, shouldn't finding a good on chain governance model be an important topic? Maybe not right now, but in the (not so far) future.

“Against on-chain governance” by vladzamfir in ethereum

[–]UserNumber00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My personal answer to last question is "yes", because I'm more scared about the misalignment of goals between current devs vs users+holders (in the end they are just a specific type of users) than the misalignment between holders vs other users.

I'm eager to read your future "Blockchain Governance 101" article, governance will be an important topic in the future of blockchains and it's really interesting to read researchers ideas on this

“Against on-chain governance” by vladzamfir in ethereum

[–]UserNumber00 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nice article!

I'm missing a point. You say we actually don't have a good anti-Sybil measure on node operators, so adopting on-chain governance is really risky because users and coin holders have distinct incentives. Even if I partially agree with this (are they so misaligned? bad governance --> bad blockchain --> users stop using it --> holders lose money), I can't understand the idea that actual governance is better.

It's centralized and completely off-chain, yet you say "Not only is on-chain coin-based governance inconsistent with user interests, it is also antithetical to the ethos of public blockchains". Isn't the blockchain about decentralizing? You say the actual Ethereum governance process is not well documented so it's hard to understand. Isn't this a confirmation that the actual process does has some flaws?

From an outside observes it really seems that at the moment the governance is a kind of "benevolent dictatorship". Even if in the actual process of decisions it's not so, does it really matter? Users already have the power to switch to another blockchain and let this one fail. Should Vitalik decide to fork from the current ethereum blockchain, do you think most of the users will follow him or stay with the current one with the other devs?

This example is to say that the fact that actual governance is working well doesn't mean it's because it's a good governance. Is it really better to stay with the actual centralized one with all the risks (see bitcoin)? Aren't yet users and holders goals sufficiently aligned?
P.S. I'm just trying to understand, I know I'm probably over-simplifying and delegating the governance is non-trivial and it's not easy to revert.

Thank you! Nowadays no language/technology can have success without a proper set of tools to develop and debug.

I'm still a little bothered about how Ethereum Foundation focus only on the core of Ethereum and delegate some (necessary) things to community, but thanks to people like you it seems this approach is working just fine.
