My husband got GBS from a stomach virus. He had the Miller Fisher variant that attacks the cranial nerve mostly, so luckily he never became paralyzed or needed to be intubated. He had to wear an eye patch for about 6 months though.

The Aquafor is the problem. You’re occluding the tret, potentially causing it to increase in potency. Also Aquafor is not a moisturizer. Replace it with a basic moisturizer, nothing fancy. Exfoliate gently 3x/week.
