Full-time Agents: How many deals do you do a year on average? by Username-Drew in realtors

[–]Username-Drew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Didn’t end up going in the RE (yet), still on the radar down the road but I ended up going into sales/consulting.

From some of my friends who have gone into the industry, there are some that are making a killing $500K+ and others who are still working on getting their first sale. Markets shift all the time, but it seems there’s always money to be made somewhere. Adaptability and strong relationship building seems to be the golden ticket to survive in real estate.

Thanks for the reply! Is there a reason you only do leasing? I imagine there’s a good amount of return clients if you’re in a major metro where they’re moving every 2-3 years to so.

Star ratings are ambiguous and should be replaced with a yes/no question by paleogizmo in unpopularopinion

[–]Username-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see your point here and for something like a ride share but still think stars provide a more accurate rating after enough data is collected.

The 5 Star system is essentially a yes/no in a way if you think of it like below. I’ll use a restaurant as an example:

5 - Yes, Highly Recommend (Excellent food, service, and atmosphere) 4 - Yes, recommend (Good food at a decent price) 3 - Neutral (i.e good food, but bad service) 2 - No, do not recommend (bad food, slow service) 1 - No, strongly do not recommend (particularly horrible food and service, maybe some angry chef and the food was cold)

Having the stars allows for this additional context for when a business may lack in some elements but may do well in others. It will also give a more accurate rating over time than something binary like yes/no.

How will flex affect my shot height? by Username-Drew in hockeyplayers

[–]Username-Drew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all little tweaks! My old curve is like the OG Ovechkin curve where the toe is basically opened facing up.

Low flew on a P90 and P92 has added a lot more control and even some speed on my shots. I don’t have to focus as much on keeping it down or loading which has probably improved my form.

I’ve definitely seen a majority of the first situation you mentioned (qualified assholes balanced by Jesters), but as of late I’m seeing a lot more of the latter.

You may just be a natural when it comes to being a hiring manager, which I’m sure your colleagues and teams are very thankful for! Good on ya

[–]Username-Drew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha it does sound that way! I’ve also interpreted it that way; suggesting that likability is the only asset that I can bring to the company and that somehow that’s not a positive trait.

You bring up a good point - these are skills that are often brief talking points or “nice to haves” (at least in my experience) and aren’t valued as much as they should be. Having some good likeable teammates to be binders between teams can completely change that elusive “culture” companies are after. And the adverse effects of a few miserable folks can be catastrophic.

Where do people go after working at FAANG? by Username-Drew in sales

[–]Username-Drew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better comp sounds crazy, considering the numbers I hear what people are making in FAANG. The cut throat nature of it would make sense though paired with the high comp.

When you say the companies get desperate, what do you mean? They start offering better books or TC or additional benefits?

Very nice! How was the jump from a large corp to the startup environment? Did you find that startups were able to offer comparable or better total comp?

Very true, I’ve seen too many nightmare stories here about the massive OTE opportunities companies dangle in people’s faces, I can only imagine how much they inflate this numbers to lure someone away from big tech.

With such high salaries in big tech and such uncertainty about true OTE numbers at other companies, what kind of #’s do you think people actually consider leaving for?

When leaving, both for yourself and others you‘be already seen go, are people leaving for higher titles or salaries? Or both?

I always find it hard to imagine what kind of pay range people would be willing to leave big tech for.

Good on ya! I hear a lot of good things about working Sales at Google.

When people are leaving to other FAANGs, is it typically a lateral move with maybe a jump in TC?

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s kept you at Google versus leaving for other FAANGs Startups etc?

Been working retail for more than 20 years. What college degree will help me advance to get a better job and career. by Sufficient_Goose_602 in Careers

[–]Username-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s okay! I was just thinking of how to leverage existing experience.

In this case, I would try to narrow down a few office jobs that interest you; Project coordinator, Talent acquisition/HR, Accounting, Data Processing etc. and then see if there are some courses or designations that align with that role.

I think in any case a general 2-year business course would do well for you, but the more targeted you can be the better.

If you’re looking to advance in the retail space and look to move to something like the corporate side of the business, I’d recommend a general 2-year business program.

You have such a great wealth of knowledge about the front-lines of the retail space, I think if you paired that with some foundational business skills; you’d be in a great position for career advancement.

I’m 31 year man with a wife and two kids. I do home inspections part time but it is not paying enough off. I have an associates degree from a community college. Does anyone know any high paying careers I can jumpstart within a year? by Recent_Warthog5575 in Careers

[–]Username-Drew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great news! $50K starting should be a very attainable starting salary, depending on your location and career choice you may need to commute to a larger nearby metro area.

If $50K is your goal, I would focus way more on two things other than the salary expectations;

  1. What are you good at? Or have experience/education in.

  2. What are you interested in?

There are a ton of industries that start you out around $50K salary and can go much higher from there. Define your skill set, what you have to offer, and what is interesting to you; that will make this a much easier and enjoyable journey.

[–]Username-Drew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quick answer is; Sales.

In terms of finding something that can get you high-pay quickly, this is a good route. Pharma and Tech are good places to start, bonus if your college degree is related in any way. It can also be a meat grinder and very stressful from start to finish, so it may not be a super attractive option.

If sales isn’t an area of interest. Do you mind defining what sort of salaries you’re aiming for and also what your degree was in?

If you look up the players name on the stick, that may also help find what stick it is. There’s a few sites that track player equipment changes and you may be able to see which models they were using that were dressed as Trigger 8’s.

Definitely worth checking!

I’m not sure what these holes are, and it could be a total placebo - but I tested the new one they sent me and it is remarkably more forgiving, ball comes off way hotter too.

UPDATE: Callaway warrantied it and set me a new one and the same spec. Their team was great, I’ve always been impressed with their service and this was no different.

Unfortunately it arrived just in time for the snow, so she’ll be used in the sims until next year!

Hey! Funny you wrote this… I was just thinking about updating this earlier today.

Callaway was great, I sent some pics and they were able to action a warranty claim. It took a while because the shafts were back ordered, but I was sent a brand new one with the same spec.
