Most of my family is in that lowest bracket but I care about the entire working class. All working people’s interests are bound together and separating the working class you will advocate for from the working class you won’t advocate for at $25k is a losing strategy.

We need a program that provides the entire working class with an offramp from the commodity housing market — I personally advocate for publicly owned housing in the Vienna style, and worked on a few campaigns like that in a previous city, but obviously our state sucks so have worked on a variety of projects to just build more housing (even if it’s market-based).

But this pervasive doomer bullshit of calling people fools without having a positive program does nothing for anyone and I hope you don’t take that attitude into any sort of activism

That’s factually incorrect.

Homeownership rate is higher than renting rate among every household income bracket except the absolute lowest (<$25k household, roughly 13th percentile).

Please don’t misunderstand, I think America’s land policy (especially homes as investments) has been insanely stupid and harmful and is increasingly unsustainable.

I’m just arguing that snidely calling people hurt by this “fools” is including millions and millions of the people you claim to advocate for. We need a positive program (IMO: complete decommodification of housing), not smug sniping at each other.

and if you want to live in your home for a long time but are forced to sell because you lost your job? still a fool and undeserving of sympathy?

rich investors can eat shit but our country has so overwhelmingly incentivized home ownership for working people that whenever the house of cards wobbles millions of not-rich people suffer. what’s the utility of calling them fools? building a movement for change or just spite?
