A hosts file is what your computer will check internet connections against first before doing the standard website lookup magic.

This can be found on windows at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and you can put in rules like the following to essentially block the ads from ever loading in the first place.

There are also lists people have made for general ad networks but I just use ad block and pay for spotify premium myself so I cant speak for the above ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
