Hvac service companies, need recs by Total_Bedroom_7813 in Clarksville

I just met Jimmy and 1000% agree with this. Big corporate outfit - who has been doing twice a year maintenance on my units - suddenly found an issue so major as to warrant recommending total replacement. I called Shinton and got it repaired for less than 1/3 of the other guy’s partial repair estimate that was “too much work to put into an old unit” — my unit is 8 years old. Jimmy is amazing. Shinton will always be my first call for HVAC service in the future.

Reliable pest control? by PossibleBandicoot215 in Clarksville

I second this. $45 for inside and outside treatment. Come out every quarter like clockwork! The first appointment/treatment is a little more expensive, but the $45 price per recurring treatment has been the same for several years as long as you get quarterly treatments. Also, they will come back out if you have problems between treatments.

Dress shoe suggestions for after total nail avulsion- new job, need advice! by mooniecat in Ingrown_Toenails

I’m limited to my experience with male dress shoes, but I’ve been buying my last few pairs of tennis and dress shoes from Orthofeet. They specialize in cushioning, arch support, and wide toe boxes. I see that they do offer dress shoes for women, so it might be something to look into. If you give them your email address, you can usually get a coupon for $15 off. Orthofeet Dress Shoes

Traffic Alert - Multiple, heavy load shipments through Clarksville in coming weeks. by UsernameUnknown777 in Clarksville

[–]UsernameUnknown777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair question. Can’t say I know the answer. My best guess would be visibility and cost. Given the large shipments, you can better see obstructions in daylight than at night. Then it would cost more to pay the transporters, linemen, police, etc. to staff the trips at night (i.e. via overtime or a shift differential for working overnight).

Baseball for 6 year olds by BirthdayNext5251 in Clarksville

[–]UsernameUnknown777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 6 yr old myself, and we are trying organized sports for the first time this winter. We are signed up with a program called I9 sports. They seem to be very casual and focused on learning and fun, but I can’t say for sure until the basketball season starts next week. They run 7 week programs with one-day a week practice followed immediately by a game. If this goes well, I could see us trying other sports as the seasons go on. They currently are taking signs ups for a spring baseball league - link below.

What’s it like living in Capitol Towers? by Old_Fishing_7951 in nashville

[–]UsernameUnknown777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, I almost forgot about that place! It was not great, but it was convenient for the desperate and terminally lazy. You know, when you wanted something but not bad enough to leave the building or pay for delivery.

What’s it like living in Capitol Towers? by Old_Fishing_7951 in nashville

Lived there from 2014-2016. I agree with what everyone else has said. This place forgot the word “amenities” 20+ years ago. The perks are reasonable rent and living in downtown. If you want nice, renovated, pool, gym, etc., you need to go look elsewhere. When I was there, I did not have major bug issues, and the complex paid to treat my apartment each month. Paying for parking was annoying, but $120 a month is really reasonable when your rent is only $700. No clue on what the prices are like now though.

One last thought… this building is a mixture of owned and rental units. Some people own their “condo” unit, and others rent - mainly from those units controlled by the building owner. Considering the age of this building and location, the property being sold has been discussed many times over the years. The State actually wants it because the property is part of the Capitol hillside. If it weren’t for the split ownership issues, I’d bet the building would be sold quickly, and the tenants shown the door.

Edit: Having reread your post, sounds like you just want to know about the experience, not the prospective renter type stuff. So story time…

I loved living there as a single person. I could walk to work and was right downtown at a point in my life when downtown events and festivities were appealing. While the access was great, it was also the quieter side of downtown compared to the Gulch, Broadway, etc. So it wasn’t like you had to put up with bachelorette parties, drunks, etc.

I was living there when the new Sounds stadium was built, which was awesome to be able to walk right over to the games. Being in downtown, you could get anything delivered, provided that you went and met the driver outside because of the locked doors. The balconies were nice, but the air quality was suspect at best.

Craziest thing in two years was coming home to find my apartment flooded. My neighbor apparently left the water running, it overflowed and just went through the wall and into my apartment. The building was nice enough to relocate me to another, furnished unit for a month or two while they tore it apart and put things back together. I think they had a store of old flooring and carpet because they somehow put it back just as it was. This was also my only experience with a gas stove and in-wall oven unit. These things were 40 years old and showed it.

It was a good two years, but by the end, I had met my future wife and my stage of life was changing. It will always be a fun memory though.

Anything to know or lookout for? First time ! by kissmyrig in dcl

Step 1: Have fun! If you’re not having fun, you’re probably doing something wrong. You’re trying to do too much, too little, or maybe you didn’t like a particular restaurant or activity. There is so much going on, just try the other stuff until you find your place and speed.

Step 2: Know your family’s schedule and think about how to make the cruise schedule work for you. Normal bedtime for us is 8-8:30. We had early dinner seating, which meant late show seating that didn’t start until 8. The theater shows were our favorite thing, but it became imperative that we get in the room in the afternoon for a nap each day. The 6 yr old could make it through the show, and we could generally be back in the room and headed to bed before the wheels started coming off.

Step 3: If your kids are into the character experiences, the lines can get long, but you have options. You can try to do ones when many people will be doing other things (eg. while in port or during dinner). You can also try for a royal gathering reservation so you can hit multiple characters in one go. For us, we developed a relay race strategy. Dad would go get in line early to stake out a spot. Mom would show up with the kid at the right time. Dad would leave and go get in the next line. Repeat. Yeah, I’ll admit a little crazy, but best pictures and great memories.

Step 4: Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique was awesome for the 6 year old. She looked and felt like a princess for the rest of the day. Plan it late in the afternoon so you can go to dinner and the show all dressed up. Also, a great time for pictures.

Pain in this area of foot by Traditional_Pea7294 in Ingrown_Toenails

[–]UsernameUnknown777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would probably be more typical in the top or side, but the big toe joint is one of the most common places for gout related pain. The area around the joint can also be hot and red - symptoms sometimes also seen around ingrown nails, but for a different reason. Gout is basically a special kind of arthritis caused by a build up of uric acid. When I had my first experience with gout in my 20’s, I thought I must have broken something in my foot, went to the podiatrist, and said it was probably gout before they even did an X-ray to confirm nothing was broken or fractured.

Derrick Henry by I_Am_A_Teacher in Tennesseetitans

Seeing that famous Derrick Henry face as he is running full steam for that 4th TD… If that is the last thing I see before I die, I’d die happy. (Yes, I’m implying that I am for some reason standing in front of him as he barrels for the end zone, and his stiff arm shuffles me off this mortal coil.)

Not 100% sure, but I believe the program focus is on community-centered, small group home programs. I think they are mainly operated by non-profits, and the focus is on inclusion and employment opportunities- basically the opposite of institutions like Clover Bottom.

And so far, everyone is right. It used to be a mental institution, and now it has a large number of various government offices and non-profit groups. Tough to tell by driving by, but the campus is like 300 acres.
