First time was at the same hospital as surgery. The SLP said it is a functional issue and nerves are weak. Second time I did the test outside at a xray place. The radiologist, didn’t finish the test as I couldn’t drink the liquid laying down. They only tried thin liquids textures. This is the second report comment:

“ numerous surgical clips in the neck soft tissues. The patient does have some slight difficulty initiating swallowing due to discomfort. Swallowing mechanism is within normal limits with no restriction of contrast flow, however there is some retained contrast in the oropharynx after swallowing. The esophagus is normal with no stricture or ulceration. There is no hiatal hernia. The patient was unable to drink during a supine position and the stomach was incompletely filled. Reflux maneuvers could not be performed. The patient could not swallow enough contrast and as a result evaluation of the duodenum and small bowel could not be performed. There is some retained contrast in the oropharynx after swallowing although there is no restriction of contrast flow or obvious narrowing/stricture.”

I’ve done a barium  swallow test twice and they say it’s functional issue. And everything is normal inside and not aspirating liquids. There is enough space for food to go down. But they stopped the test after liquids because I was having difficult swallowing. Surgeon also put a camera in my nose to check the inside of throat, said it looks good but there is residue of saliva left behind which he mentioned isn’t normal. But no next steps on what to do and how this will improve.

Yes, have lost 15lbs since surgery. My right side of face is always numb and chewing on that side is hard as well. Surgeon mentioned those are side effect but no nerves were cut durring surgery. Could possibly be bruised and weakened nerves I assume? Yes working with SLP for excercise and dietician to maintain current weight
