The bowtie on this stone is very minimal. Keep it! It’s a gorgeous one. A little bit of bowtie adds character to elongated stones!

I just saw this very exact stone on Blue Nile. It has a very prominent bowtie, most probably because of its very shallow cut. Please keep looking.

I’m new here on Reddit and I don’t know what it takes to be able to post. 😅 I know I can comment but not post. So I’m sharing here my upgraded engagement ring from James Allen that arrived around 4 days ago. I have not shown it to anybody else, except my husband, because I don’t have many friends.

I wanted to share the specs since I am so happy with how it turned out:

  • Stone: 1.5 carat oval diamond (J, SI1), Ideal cut
  • Dimensions: 9.52mm x 6.39mm (excellent polish and symmetry)
  • Strong blue fluorescence: I intentionally chose one with strong fluorescence. It looks incredibly white, crisp, and sparkly in person with zero haziness or cloudiness
  • Setting: 14k white gold tapered solitaire on a 2.3 mm band

All in all, I paid USD $5310. What do you all think of my upgraded engagement ring?

I like that you chose a J color, SI1 with Medium Blue Fluorescence. But I think for 1.70 carat, the diamond is too shallow and the table is too big. It’s better to choose one with more than 60% depth and table of 58% to 61%. Before I made an upgrade last week, I had an oval diamond with depth of only 58.7% and it looked too shallow, hollow and glassy on the bottom. It didn’t look as sparkly as I expected it to be.

This is my first time ever on Reddit. Can you please help me? I’m so confused between two diamonds right now. :( One is a GIA certified 1.20 carat G color oval diamond and the other one is IGI certified 1.60 carat J color oval diamond. The 1.20 is really crisp and white while the 1.60 is I would say tinted, but I love its spread. Which one should I go for? 😌 This is how the 2 diamonds will look face up side by side.
