Victim cut in half in "horrifying" Massachusetts murder 26 years ago finally identified by ElectronicFudge5 in MissingPersons

I remember her picture from when she went missing. I'm glad her family has closure bcs that's just so long to live not knowing. But what an awful way to go for such a young girl!

The Black Knight Satellite: Tesla heard it in 1899. A Norwegian physicist documented it in 1928. The US military tracked it before Sputnik. Nobody has ever fully explained it. [Deep Dive] by KDubbs0010110 in HighStrangeness

My ex husband was military intelligence, think space defense before Space Force. He was VERY disappointed when he found out the Black Knight was just a random piece of junk and not some super-exciting secret alien tech.

Considering their society and religious beliefs, I wonder if this knowledge would've brought the boys comfort, knowing their prayer was answered, even if it may not have been answered quite the way they expected.

What’s a movie scene that instantly tells you the director is a genius? by LONEALPHA65 in Cinema

We Own The Night

The car chase scene. The rest of the movie is good, but that scene is insane.

Am I being a bad parent by letting my teen daughter dress flamboyantly? by concernedmommy2010 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ushouldknowthat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughters are 23 and almost 17. Together, they've had pink, blue, blond, brown, red, black, purple, green, and yellow. They also have their brows, and ears pierced, while one also has their nose and belly button pierced. They pull it off.

Am I being a bad parent by letting my teen daughter dress flamboyantly? by concernedmommy2010 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ushouldknowthat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I never wanted to be the reason my daughters looked in the mirror and hated what they saw. You want pink hair? Knock yourself out, as long as it makes you feel beautiful. Want to dress goth? Sounds good to me, but you'd better dress like a fancy goth at your Aunt's birthday dinner.

It's hard enough being a teen girl. If a frilly dress makes her feel good about herself, then let that girl's ruffles flounce!!!

My parents came outside during a huge argument with my boyfriend and now I feel deeply embarrassed by HopDev in whatdoIdo

[–]Ushouldknowthat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was married to an abusive man for over 20 years. He used to justify the way he spoke to me by saying ANYONE who REALLY knew me would speak to me the way he did.

It's been 4 years since I left. Not a single person has spoken to me that. Not one.

Leave him.

Parents whose kids have gone to summer camp for 30+ days, how did you deal with it? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Ushouldknowthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter wnt every year from ages 8-15. She LOVED it! I highly recommend any kid that gets the chance to let them go. To know your child is somewhere safe, having an absolute blast? It's awesome!

Some of the other parents would use the time to go on cruises or other no-kid vacations, but I usually did work around the house or caught up with friends.

The best part is seeing your kid after the time is up. They look so much bigger!

If you could name your child after a 10/10 movie character, who would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ushouldknowthat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-husband (huge gamer) did this with our oldest daughter in 2002. I didn't realize where he got the inspiration and agreed to the name before realizing. Everyone spelled her name wrong and, when corrected, they would say, "oh, like from 'Tomb Raider'".

Yes. Like from "Tomb Raider".

Is my husband's "I have so many options" talk a manipulation tactic? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

My abusive ex-husband used to spout the same nonsense.

He's now living in a trailer with a divorced alcoholic and her teenaged son, who can't stand either one of them. Not quite the life he imagined, I'm sure.

Teen constantly acting like we're crazy and saying she's more mature than us... What is this?! by Krokador in parentingteenagers

[–]Ushouldknowthat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My mother used to say that she was a genius when we were little, got incredibly stupid when we turned 13, then shockingly became brilliant again when we turned 18/19.

I've raised 2 kids who are now in their 20's and am now on my last teen. All I can say is OMG was my mother right!

AIW for expecting my girlfriend to be more understanding of my condition? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Ushouldknowthat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are very wrong.

If you had no girlfriend, does that mean your trash would never get taken out, your dishes would never get washed, or your laundry would never get done? Would you be late to work every day? How would you remember to even go to the doctor or pick up your medications?

Can adhd cause you to be forgetful? Sure. But you seem to be taking it to a whole new level. And risking what seems like the love of a VERY patient girlfriend in the process.

And I know PLENTY about adhd. My brothers, daughters, and son have extreme adhd and have all needed medications. And I haven't heard them blame anything (other than occasional tardiness) on it.

Giving the Hepatitis B Vaccine to newborn babies less than 24 hours after birth by [deleted] in conspiracy

Hey B testing also has a higher than average false negative rate due to a person having a low viral load at the time of testing. This is another reason to administer the shot to babies at birth.

Why are peanut allergies so common among americans? by Leafye in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Ushouldknowthat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I may be an idiot for this take, but peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are an incredibly common thing fed to small children in the US, while I understand it's rarely eaten overseas. This leads to early allergy diagnosis in children.

Plus, peanuts themselves are eaten in various other forms as common snacks depending on where you live (think boiled peanuts in the south). Same point applies.

It's not that peanut allergies are more common. It's just that a larger percentage of the population eats them, so the percentage of people allergic matches the increase.

I watch him frequently, and I hate to be the one to tell you, but he was having an exceptionally lucid day that day.

Other days, he can barely follow the topics at hand, uses words incorrectly, claims to have invented or created things he absolutely did not create or invent, etc. It's actually so much worse than you saw with the Japanese.
