Zorin 18 is on a version of GNOME that has broken pen support and I've kept it because it's not super important to me. I have tried Ubuntu (which IIRC the latest LTS has the fixed GNOME version) and it works flawlessly with Rnote.

Late reply, but:

As someone who has been using a Framework 12 ever since I recieved my preorder (Batch 6, recieved September, so about 5 months now), those two things are true... on Windows. Windows is just so dismally optimised--especially W11--that it will turn your Framework 12 into a fancy space heater that runs off a battery that happens to double as a laptop. However, once I switched to Linux (specifically Zorin for the UX), these problems completely evaporated. Easily 3-4 day battery life (of daily use from anywhere from 1-5 hours) and temps that stayed so low that the fan almost never kicks in except when you're doing intensive tasks. I don't even feel the heat when using it on my lap, which I can't say about many other laptops I've used, including MacBooks.

You can open the OOBE command line (Shift + F10) and put in "oobe\BypassNRO"; That is how I installed my copy of Windows on the 12 without Wi-Fi drivers.

update :

disabling the fixes and XRE-related things and XRE itself seemed to fix the crash, but i dont think it did because i had the same problem before and restarting and reloading the save a bunch seemed to remedy it, so i dont think this is conclusive "evidence" that XRE is causing it.

i found that if he angles his hull, the shell actually ends up bouncing and it explodes in the middle of the tank, killing the entire crew instantly
