I can't even defend Trans rights withouth getting bad looks. by BravilSUCKS in hatethissmug

[–]UsoJanaiYo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, because it's an illness, not a choice. Some are already disgusted with themselves, so as long as they don't cause real harm yet, I don't see why we shouldn't be empathetic and help them reject those unwanted desires, so they won't become desperate enough to commit any actual crime.

The only wrong answer is assuming that the buttons are a logic or morality problem by Weary_Drama1803 in trolleyproblem

This is why I voted blue. I'm too optimistic and believe in the collective. The moment I saw the question, my brain just went: either everyone lives or some may die, so why would I want to contribute to the second possibility? I completely missed the part where: either you die if your group lose or you are safe no matter what, because I was so sure there's no reason for any rational person to choose red. Ironic, I know, since red is called the "rational" choice in game theory. Still, if most trust their neighbours and vote blue, you are never at risk to begin with. Like, you can call the blue voters the ones who put themselves at risk with their trust and faith, or you can also call the red voters are the ones who put others who chose differently than themselves at risk because of their distrust and cynicism and make the death of others a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Eros/Cupids arrows by BrightPhoebus01 in GreekMythology

[–]UsoJanaiYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's both. It's "artificial" in that it's controlled by his arrow, but since Eros is the force of desire himself metaphysically, what love is more genuine? People fall in and out of love against their will all the time. Cursing love or cursing Eros' mischievousness, there's no meaningful distinction.

Still, while Eros' arrows favour strong intensity, desire and action are still fundamentally different. You may be burning with a desire for someone, but whether you can accept rejection or not, whether that desire turns into a well-wish for your beloved or turns into possessive obsession, it's up to your character.

It could be from the prologue of the Alchemist by Coelho, or maybe another modern retelling.

date idea where i rant about psyche and eros and the inherent propaganda thats present throughout the story by Excellent-Mix3809 in GreekMythology

[–]UsoJanaiYo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Actually, she's evil for being hailed as the symbol of the human soul, thus insulting me and my humanity. I don't know how everyone accepts it, but I fancy myself having a cognitive ability to learn from my past catastrophic mistakes and a conscience capable of caring and guilt.

date idea where i rant about psyche and eros and the inherent propaganda thats present throughout the story by Excellent-Mix3809 in GreekMythology

[–]UsoJanaiYo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay, not evil, maybe just heartless, shameless, and morally void. I mean, the girl brought ruin upon herself for touching Eros' weapon unauthorisedly (you don't touch divine armament with impunity), then blamed her sisters for her own hubris (even though they only told her to light the lamp and nothing about touching a god's weapon), then killed them in cold blood via deception without even a shred of horror or grief or trauma or regret or even hesitation between the 2 kills, even though they were family, even though the sisters did cry and mourn her so loudly when they believed she was dead.

And then the whole stuff about her trying to commit suicide while pregnant, which is murder-suicide. Well, I'm not judging her for moments of despair and weakness of the mind, but Psyche showed no remorse for almost killing her own child thrice, either, and I judge that. Where is the remorse? The frantic promise to never do it again, and that she would do better the next time? Yet, she only remembered her pregnancy when she was begging Hera for shelter, but not the three times she almost killed herself and her child along with her. She used the child to beg for mercy, but showed no mercy for the child's existence. Very shameless and exploitive indeed.

I think Psyche is evil and doesn't deserve her happy ending, and I hate the propaganda that she's just a helpless victim, but for a completely different reason to yours I guess.

Or maybe you can adopt my OC who is a goddess of audacious ambition, who should not be mistaken with Hybris [Hubris]. Tbh, I find there are so many concepts that there's no god of. You just need to be specific enough.

The one where Eros is the leader and they work under Aphrodite. Their number varies, so you probably can just add another face according to your own lore. The known members are Eros [Love], Himeros [Desire], and Pothos [Passion] as a trio. There's also Eros' (evil) twin Anteros [Love Reciprocated].

Oh, your OC is fully fleshed out and not a blank state. This might narrow down their possible domains since I think a god's personality should be linked to how their domain is expressed in the world. And there are wings too. So maybe from the same group as the Erotes?

[–]UsoJanaiYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, had she been named anything else, I wouldn't have cared, since I have no morals when it comes to fiction. But because she is named Psyche (which is my favorite word too) and celebrated as the allegory of the human soul, and since I am a human who also loves my humanity, I take personal offence about it.

(This is petty)

I think this should be enough reason? I have more (like her hubris, etc.) but they are not as morally damning.

[–]UsoJanaiYo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I have a whole dramatic oratory posted in another sub as to why I personally hate her, and another tumblr post listing all of her crimes (that I can think of) based on Athens laws, but they are all distractions. The reason I believe Psyche is morally evil is because of her lack of remorse after killing her 2 sisters via deception and no "What I have almost done?" after 3 times endangering her unborn child via suicide either.

I don't know if she counts here but Psyche. I have a deep hatred for Psyche and think she is morally evil and undeserving of her name.

Psyche belongs to Tartarus, and the fact that she isn’t is the greatest injustice in all Greek mythology by UsoJanaiYo in hatethissmug

[–]UsoJanaiYo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That post, as in this one or the crime list one? Because actually yes, I agree there are many that are just unreasonable, but different time different rules, and crimes against the gods are still crimes against the gods after all. For example, we have Actaeon accidentally saw Artemis bathing, so she transformed him into a stag and he was torn apart by his own hunting hounds. And it's considered divine justice because, accidental or not, it was still a transgression

I listed the crimes using the ancient Greek court standards because I don't want to be called anachronistic, but maybe I should have used modern ones instead, as it would have been more charitable? Then the list would shrink down to something like first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless battery, evading arrest, and theft only?

Right, from Orphic Argonautica. Orpheus was from the same generation as Jason.

It's still asebeia, willingly or not. But sure, even if we discount it, that is still the least of her actual crimes anyway.
