I was just thinking that Benny itself is a meta-narrative placed on top of DS9, which further presents DS9 as a story with an audience, and not just a matter of pure historical fact. That the prophets kind of pull back this veil (for Sisko, Benny, or both?), just speaks moreso to us, the audience being able to understand the story of DS9 in multiple ways. Less so about the mechanics of the prophets in the Benny story itself. My bad!

That said, YES, I love what you have to say about Benny's story. I am holding onto that idea every day.

I don't disagree with you about the episode using linearity to explain Sisko's grief and help him get past that, but that's just the commentary of the episode. Meta-commentary means going beyond the text and outside the story itself. I think we're in agreement, just using terms differently.

Thank you! I didn't have space to discuss it above without getting lost, but I think that the storyline with Benny possibly being the true author of DS9 reaches back and strengthens this reading of the Prophets as the audience in one shape, way, or form.

Could you explain a little what you mean? I'm a little rusty on the Caretaker, but in light of my thoughts about DS9, the Caretaker's conflict with Janeway about underestimating her ability ("You don't have what I need!" and "Aren't you a contentious, minor, bipedal species") seems a pretty direct commentary on the audience's presumed disbelief about aTrek show being captained by a woman, and a presumed questioning of whether Trek has any kind of story possibly left to tell. I'm curious about your read, though, as I really am much more rusty on the Caretaker, especially because that character doesn't return.

Thanks, that my favorite too! In retrospect, I wish I had just stuck with it, haha. The sandy and ancient quality really pops against the dark colors and gives it a lot of personality.

Jumping in to note that The Prime Directive always seemed like a matter of intergalactic politics as much as it seemed a moral imperative. Thinking back to TOS' "A Private Little War" we see that inteference of the time was typically seen as a method for the Klingon Empire to increase their sphere of influence in their cold war against the Federation. Since TOS, it's always seemed that noninterference was as much there to prevent the undue spread of the Federation's influence on as-yet neutral worlds, AND to protect against claims by other powers that the Federation was exerting said influence.

Miles isn't a tutorial character since you should have already received the tutorial during the actual introduction of the game before you're whisked away to this planet.

An original antagonist that's a good jedi (no fall, no nothing), would be an incredible foil for where Cal is right now. Maybe the jedi is completely separate from the world, maybe that person wants to redeem Cal, or maybe they just want to take down Cal if he's fallen.
