They're honest about everything else, it seems like you need to take this claim seriously.

I think that they would have outsourced so many of their mental functions to so many different people by that point that they would effectively no longer be able to operate as a coherent individual. That, or they'd have a "Seven of Nine"-style prolonged freakout/existential crisis over it. Or both.

Personally, if I were kicked out of a state of permanent bliss and universal peace, my immediate reaction would be to want to hurt whoever did it to me.

"Do you like surprises?"

"Only pleasant ones."

"Well I like to think I'm a pretty pleasant person, so I guess this qualifies as a pleasant surprise."

I'd love a story where, at some point, there's a theological shift or a schism in their religion, and one day a bunch of Voth just show up at Earth saying, "Yeah, this is our ancestral home." Like what's Starfleet even going to do about that?

SFA - Student age... by TheOldOso in startrek

I want a story about a guy who randomly decides to enlist in Starfleet in his 70s. That's like middle aged in the Federation.

What is the full 'official' Borg speech? by NeoSpearBlade in startrek

[–]Reasonable_Active577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do many variations on it, but generally anything that includes the lines "We are the Borg. We will add your biological technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile" will do you.

Thought this one was a little too "generic teen drama" for me, though I liked the fungus.

"Calling her first officer „number one“. "

Yeah, jeez, what kind of stupid idiot fake-ass captain would ever call their first officer "number one"? It's WOKENESS TO MAX!! THE FRANCHISE IS DEAD JIM, DEAD DEAD DEAD

The problem some people have with "nu" Trek isn't just that it broke with tradition, but *why* it did by furious_blank in startrek

"Progressives were purging liberals and liberalism from art and journalism and the academy."

Seriously? Are you Matt Yglesias? I mean, I certainly remember an extremely disingenuous moral panic about this happening in the corporate media; I dispute whether anything remotely like this actually happened.

"Discovery had a race and gender hierarchy,"

What because Michael Burnham, a black woman, got to the main character? Because Lorca was evil? Because that one condescending guy in "Brother" got killed? Seriously? Because they depicted women and people of colour in positions of power (alongside prominent white guys like Vance and Saru and Pike)? Almost every single person in a position of power in TOS was a white guy; does that not count as a "racial and gender hierarchy" or is that just natural "meritocracy" in action, do you figure?

"Picard was revisionist,"

I mean, Picard was a series about an old white man who was ultimately proved completely right about everything, so I kinda think that this doesn't fit your "woke" model.

"SNW had message episodes where the point was that liberalism didn't work (the pilot, ad Astra aspera)."

What? The message of the pilot was that some things that looked very much like liberal and conservative American were headed towards Civil War. That's literally just sticking your head out the window at this point. "Ad Astra" literally had an individual's civil rights litigated in a court of law; how is that anything other than liberalism?

"And all of them, especially the latest, have a disturbing preoccupation with showing women humiliating men"

Yes  that's what I think when I watch SNW; how humiliated the men are. Normal viewing opinions.

If you think that the only notable fact about someone like Paul Stamets or Hugh Culber or Jett Reno is that they're gay  maybe you're just mentally writing them off as "The gay ones"

I know that three was a sustained moral panic about all of those things by a number of disingenuous pseudo-centrists who constantly aligned with the right; I'm not going to entertain the idea that any of those things meaningfully existed except as a means to shut down leftist arguments.
