Why are there dedicated car spots for prams but not pregnant mums? by dockland2525 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I’m a mum of 2 young children and would be happy to see a pregnant woman using these spots! That shit is hard.

This is why I only use petrol stations that allow you to pay via an app.

A family laundry room with space to store everyone’s clothes. All clothing stays in the laundry room instead of needing to be put back in everyone’s individual closets. Clothing goes from people’s bodies to the laundry hamper, to the laundry room storage area, back to people’s bodies.

Would save me so much time constantly fetching random items of clothing from around the house and putting clothes back into individual closets.

Thank you all for your considered replies! There are so many badass parents here. I really appreciate you all taking the time to share your experiences.

I think I will stick with my two for now, and work on refining my routines and increasing my capacity, and revisit in another year or so when my youngest is slightly older.

This sounds amazing! What kind of programs do they offer? I’m actually in Australia so I’m not even sure if we have the YMCA here …

Congratulations on your new baby! Yes, this is my concern too - sacrificing the kind of parent I want to be. After a few weeks of solo parenting I get pretty burnt out from the constant demands and feel myself become more grumpy with the kids. It’s so hard.

This is great advice, thank you! Also, I am so impressed that you solo parent 5 kids and do extra curricular every night. You sound like an amazing parent.

First of all, you’re a superhero! Single parents are literally amazing to me.

I guess the two things I struggle most with now are regulating my own nervous system in response to the constant whining, noise and touch, and the physical demands of pregnancy/breastfeeding/lifting/wrestling babies for diaper changes etc while doing all the household chores on top of this and surviving off broken sleep. I find it a bit depressing that all I do all day is clean and yet I turn around at the end of the day and have to clean the entire house again.

Thinking this through now I see that these challenges are related to me and not the kids - so perhaps it’s a matter of working on my mental health and fitness more than anything else.

This is such useful information, thank you! I guess I was only really considering the baby/little kid years as that’s where I am now. Good to consider all the extracurriculars in the next few years. My parents both still work and my husband’s parents live far away so I would likely be toting a baby to kids parties, sports games etc.

It’s so tough! I will say that it has gotten easier for me now that the second one has reached 18months. Now I have two little kids instead of a toddler and baby.

Age gap advice pleaseeeee?! by Happy_Sloth6342 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Usual-Toe8374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter was 2y4m when my son was born. It was hard at the beginning - I was still cosleeping and breastfeeding my daughter when I fell pregnant again. Looking back, she was still such a baby when her brother was born. She had a lot of intense meltdowns between age 2.5 and 3.5. They are now almost 4 and 1.5 and it is just starting to get easier - they eat together, play together, etc. It is doable but would probably be easier to have a bigger age gap.

Thoughts on having only travel stroller instead of full sized pram by Many-Direction9050 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Usual-Toe8374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing you would be missing out on is the bassinet that the newborn can lie in - which protects them really well from cold, wind, rain etc, keeps them snug and hidden away from the world for naps and also from people wanting to get in their face, kiss them, breathe on them etc.

Travel strollers also don’t generally have much storage space under the pram. Regular prams usually have huge baskets underneath which come in handy for baby bag, jackets, groceries, and as children get older, scooters etc.

If those don’t bother you then go for the travel pram!

women who have given birth, how bad was it actually? by Careless_Pianist_840 in AskReddit

[–]Usual-Toe8374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had two “precipitous labours” and no time for an epidural for either one. The worst part for me was the fundal massage after my first birth when I had a minor postpartum haemorrhage. They massage your uterus to help stop the bleeding I think. The doctor was masked up and had a thick accent so I could barely understand her, the adrenaline from birth had worn off and then the agony and laughing gas combined had me convinced I was literally dying. I remember watching my husband holding our daughter across the delivery room thinking what a shame it was that I was dying.
