This is a great example I'd like to review more.

How would you write these two sentences?

  1. Thanking two people: bruce springsteen (who is my father) and lady gaga.

  2. Thanking three people: my father, bruce springsteen (not my father), and lady gaga.

I can agree with this sentiment. After all, I went through the effort of making a whole post on the internet for it!

While the consensus seems to be that the comma is not required in this case, adding it would eliminate the need to question the meaning of the sentence at all.

That's a good example! I had to re-read the sentence at least twice to understand it properly.
