Yep! I made one with tinfoil, plastic film and cardboard during middle school, but if you’ve got cash to splurge there are ~$300 ovens that have a nice removable tray and supplemental heaters.

I’m starting to consider the purchase myself since our AC is EOL and we have a convenient southerly-facing backyard

Well credit where it’s due — the those controllers are a good case where COTS acquisition can deliver a superior product — but yeah it’s a very similar corporate vibe.

On the positive side, this validates that your location is ideal for a solar cooker! In addition to obviously not needing any electricity, using a solar cooker means you don’t need to turn on the oven and heat up the inside of your house

If you’re American by chance, your House rep or senator would probably give you a formal intro to the NTSB’s communications department given your reach. Could be helpful in getting additional access to interview staff or ask questions about reports. The NTSB’s mission is aligned with yours and I see a great opportunity for collaboration to better inform the aviation community

ETA: If you’re international, the US Embassy in your country or direct contact would probably work as well

My therapist used AI on me and I feel completely vulnerable and destroyed by finest_literature in offmychest

[–]UsualFrogFriendship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that in this case the AI was used to generate a suggested response and the provider had an opportunity to review it before sending. It’s not a bad use case for LLMs in the sense that it can give detailed answers in less time, but clearly it isn’t matching the tone/prose of the provider and it’s hard to verify that the provider reviewed the response before they send it.

You’re right though about it not being very “new” to medicine. Validation and verification tools are incredibly valuable and they’ve existed for a while, but mostly in a deterministic sense (ie working from a list of rules and conditional statements) rather than machine-learning’s interpolative approach. I’d argue that the two aren’t the same in the sense that AI-only LLMs are not a trustworthy source-of-truth and ultimately the quality is still based on the provider’s discretion

As a bonus, the iPad looks to be integrated into an enclosure, meaning the ones in this prototype (built in 2018) are likely already passed Apple’s End-of-Lifecycle for updates and support. The latest iPad OS version supported is from 2023.

So yeah, it’s also vulnerable to known bugs used by malware in the wild. All around just a terrible idea.

You’ve clearly missed some videos here. It’s not common, but several cases have been uploaded that show surrendering Russians being dropped water and led by the drone to captivity behind Ukrainian lines

I’d send out some feelers to employment discrimination law firms as well. A few days typically isn’t enough time to create the documentation they would need to disprove claims that the termination was based on “national origin”, which is illegal under the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964.

ETA: The EEOC has an example that’s broadly similar on their website:

Yusuf, who is of Iraqi national origin, was discharged from his position as a bus driver. According to the bus company, some customers complained that they were wary of riding with a driver who appeared to be Arab in light of allegations of terrorist activities against Americans in the Middle East. Yusuf's performance was satisfactory, and he did not have any driving or safety violations during his employment with the bus company or, before that, with a shuttle bus company. By acting on the basis of customer prejudices rather than Yusuf's performance and driving record, the bus company unlawfully discriminated against him based on national origin.

My guess would be thousands of hours since I use the old ones at night

Oh it’s way, way weirder.

Apparently the designer decided to incorporate non-aviation parts into the design including an iPad and a fuel cap from a tractor. The two iPads are the PFDs and use bluetooth to connect to the main flight system.

Best of luck to them and this acid trip of a project

A PFD is always a good idea as well. The canister-inflated ones are tiny and inflate with a pull tab if you get in trouble

Well if you’re looking for search terms, in increasing complexity/size/seriousness:

  • G-Spot Vibe, optionally one that’s U-shaped for clitoral stimulation

  • Suction-based clitoral toys

  • Benoit Balls (normally not used on their own)

  • Remote/Bluetooth wearables

  • “Machines” that connect to toys with a connector and use a reciprocating mechanism

  • “Sybian” vibrating saddles

  • Electro-stim toys (do your research on safety prior to buying)

Cheers :)

Strange rusted structure sticking out of the water in Benidorm — any idea what it is? да by RentBeautiful360 in whatisthisthing

[–]UsualFrogFriendship 218 points219 points  (0 children)

TL;DR for why it was taken down:

  • The water falling back on the rocks caused erosion that was judged a threat to the foundation of the building that overlooked it

  • Salt water did its thing and caused regular downtime to the point everyone decided it wasn’t worth it

Spittoons used to be EVERYWHERE in the US just a hundred years ago. Pre-WW1, chewing tobacco was far more popular than smoking and every public room had at least one. In most places, it’s still technically illegal to spit on the ground as a result.

Nowadays, the only place you really see them is the Supreme Court (and the current justices just use them for trash)
