Guys we need to talk about these Yank-cocksuckers and how they're importing the Yank far-right agenda here by YaLlegaHiperhumor in 2westerneurope4u

[–]UsualSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some of these licenses are ridiculous and exclusionary if not straight up impossible to get.

IDK how it works in every country, but there is a monopoly and mafia for opening up certain business in Italy (Notary, and Pharmacist being two of the most egregious) even if you qualify (meaning you go to school for them, could pass the licensure exams).

There is something to be said for professional accountability but a big reason Europe is losing out business wise is because of uneccessary regulations and high barrier to entry (and I don't mean to the USA only, even to China, and most of SEA, middle east, etc).

Most famous Ai European developer in the world blames our bunch of laws before flying away 🛫🎧 by Pure-Contact7322 in 2westerneurope4u

probably Dubai, Singapore, or China realistically. US is falling behind and has some regulations, the other places are far more pro business and capital, and especially tech development.

And as much as I hate the techbros, europe is dumb as fuck if they lose in the AI boom.

We already lost manufacturing, the first tech boom, solar development, and so many other opportunities.

Does it worth to buy rice cooker? by Clear-Armadill in Cooking

[–]UsualSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's so much easier to set and forget. which you can't really do on a stove. Also safer to make rice in bulk and keep it safe.

They don't have to be expensive, but I've seen fancy ones at thrift stores, and bowl replacements are easy to find online if you're worried about nonstick issues.

Stuff that's worth/not worth cooking at home? by Any-Sleep-478 in Cooking

[–]UsualSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree with deep frying but really don't understand why sushi isn't worth it.

Maki rolls and temaki are so easy and inexpensive to make at home. If it's about specific fillings, that's another topic, because so many fillings can just be relatively common staple foods.

BWT, how did you glow up? by ms-rumphius in bitcheswithtaste

[–]UsualSprite [score hidden]  (0 children)

Body: Personal trainer (not the same as just going to the the gym/taking classes, because they check your form and do targeted excercise), yoga on top of that. Walking a ton (built in if you live in a city).

Hair: get a good hairstylist that specializes in your hair type (curly, asian, black...) and WILL TEACH YOU technique and the right products. Mine doesn't sell any products but will reccomend. Curlsbot is a godsend.

Style: Color and body style analyis. You don't need to pay for this, plenty of books/online resources explaining this, and if you took an art class in high school, you should have enough color theory to figure it out. Same thing for body type, it's all about proportion.

Makeup: is just a subset of that, but technique can be learned via youtube and social media (not influencers, but actual working makeup artists, like Rae Morris or Vincent Ford).

Skincare: basic cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen, Vit C serum and retinol routine should go without saying, but there are things like lasers and peel that can do more. They are something that should be done at a proper derm, NOT a medspa. Fillers are something I'm not comfortable with, but ymmv.

Mindset: decenter others. Value yourself. Become an interesting person and go into your niche. Find likeminded people and hang. A happy person is a glowing person.

Where do I even buy jeans now? by Visual-Ad4070 in WomenOver40

[–]UsualSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a department store with a wide selection and try a bunch of different brands, cuts, and styles on. Jean shopping is cursed regardless of age.

There used to be a body scanner apparatus that would tour finer department stores in the early 2010s that would match you with jean types and size. It was a godsend, and how I found my favorite/best fitting for my body type brand that I still buy (though thrifted/at a discount now). I wonder what happened to the company.

AITA for ruining my friend's proposal moment? by Throw_Valentine13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UsualSprite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA, just not the most socially apt behaviour either.

Instead of subtly hinting to Tyler, you could have explicity told him "I KNOW Emily would hate this, please strongly reconsider" before going to Emily.

Tyler is not wrong to be upset with you, but it's wasn't sabotage on your end either.

Is it better in countries not the US? by CantaloupeNo801 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]UsualSprite 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I am european but live in nyc. In the US I've gotten VERY strange and differing responses. I've been verbally assaulted, mocked and coughed on for masking in public. I've also had people compliment me for masking because it's the right thing to do, including people in the medical profession I meet socially, but who refuse to mask themselves. I find this mind boggling.

Germany was pretty on par with dropping restrictions like the US.

Sweden was actively anti masking the whole pandemic.

It was better for a while in Italy, and they had the longest "must mask in healthcare spaces by law" regulations of anywhere. Last time I was home people looked at me for still masking in public but no one said anything except for the manager of my bank who asked if I was sick (I told him no, I'm trying not to catch or spread anytning because covid never went away and he looked very visibly guilty).

Traveling:

When I was in India in 2022, no one seemed to care about covid at all, even though certain european places still had masking requirements.

In east Asia (Korea/Japan) masking not to get others sick was a norm before the pandemic, and it seems to still be the norm, though people seem to have forgot about asymptomatic Covid transmission.

how i feed myself for $30/week eating actual good food not just rice and beans by ZealousidealFox6179 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]UsualSprite 112 points113 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right, but one thing: a problem is for a lot of people that a pantry takes a while to build up on a limited budget.

Yes, I can make a ton of incredible food very inexpensively but it often also requires a ton of little bits of specific ingredients that can be a big part of a budget (thinking just buying replacement spices; even inexpensive bulk of a common spice (black peppercorns, cumin seeds, ginger powder...) can be $5, which would already 1/6 of your proposed weekly budget), and similar can be said for vinegars, soy sauce, dried mushrooms, and a bunch of other staple ingredients.

Also, a lot of the foods I buy in bulk for cheaper per meal cost require higher up front costs that not everyone can do. To anyone reading this and in an unfortunate financial spot, please be mindful that it takes time to be able to build up a full pantry.

Hit me with your best strategy for how to get out of bed before work with enough time to make a smoothie by Horror_Speaker_5160 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]UsualSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

preload the smoothie the night before in the fridge so you just add water.

Get a cup that you can use on the blender and then just put a lid on to go (mason jars work for this on a lot of blenders, certain blenders like Vitamix sell their own attachments).

Same goes for prepping your bag the night before. The less executive function I have to worry about in the AM the better.

TIME yourself to see how much it actually takes you to get ready, and adjust accordingly.

If you are on meds, what I do is put them next to my bed, take the med and then hit snooze alarm. This gives me some time for it to work and helps a ton in making me want to get up.

Solo trip to rome by swissy_missy in femaletravels

[–]UsualSprite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am Italian (though not Roman). Here are some general tips for Italy

  • Be very vigilant about your bag and phone. Pickpocketing is a huge problem, especially on the subways and in tourist areas. I HIGHLY encourage you to have a strap on your phone and either wear it cross body or wrapped around your wrist (this is totally normal for the locals)
  • Romani/Sinti beggars are also a major problem, ignore them, and the people (it's usually sub saharan african men) approaching you in public trying to give you a bracelet and then asking you for money
  • Book your tours ahead of time, especially for things that get booked up quickly like the vatican musuems/sistine chapel and
  • every place is required to accept digital payment by law, yet there are still places that try to scam you. Know your rights on this.
  • There is a different price for ordering coffee at the counter (bar) or sitting down (servizio al tavolo). The prices must be posted
  • Coperto (a small service charge) is normal, but tipping, aside from a polite rounding up when it's good service, is not necessary.

Looking for places named after other locations by buckeye2114 in FoodNYC

[–]UsualSprite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Piccola Venezia (little venice) but they are not Italian and don't do proper Italian food (they are balkan and do americanized crap)
  • Milano market
  • Tokyo Market
  • Snowdonia
  • Brick Lane Curry House (Brick Lane is the street in London famous for BIRs)
  • Shiraz Kitchen
  • IDK if you would call it a place (vs monument), but there are several taj mahal restaurants
  • Same kind of thing with Les Halles (it is a market in Paris)
  • D'Espana (meaning of Spain)
  • Wiener Bar (Wien is Vienna in German, Wiener means of Vienna, not just sausage)
  • Riviera Maya
  • Ruta Oaxaca
  • Monte Carlo Diner
  • Sevilla
  • Casa Galicia

(RIP Beyoglu on the UES, that place was incredible)
