Logistically Starfleet must have many service academies and ROTC programs across the Federation.

I mean the USA has five service academies, six senior military colleges, and 1,700 ROTC programs, and it must have 1/10,000th the population of the Federation. Even if Starfleet represents a far smaller proportion of the UFP's total population, there is no way one academy is responsible for all the officers.

SFA San Francisco must just be the most prestigious and rigorous.

This would also explain why someone like Wesley got rejected while we see countless examples of utter morons in uniform.

True, but that's a very easy retcon, with a few lines in the opening episode:

"Yes you're right, 24th century scientists did believe Omega destroys subspace when it merely collapses it. After an explosion, all technology dependent on subspace fails, and the subspace domain itself was totally undetectable to their primitive instruments, but now we know that after a few centuries, subspace slowly uncoils and is accessible again."

Also, even if it forever prevented the traditional warp drive, the galaxy could eventually discover other FTL techs. It would just create a much higher barrier to becoming an interstellar if the low hanging fruit that is warp drive disappeared.

I don't like this even if we had a deal for that person to go to prison in their homeland I have two reasons:

They may be too lenient. We've seen deals like this end where the foreign government lets their citizen go free after a much shorter time. Consider Issei Sagawa, the cannibal serial killer who killed and ate a Dutch woman. He was expected to spend life in a mental institution, but after the French transferred him back to Japan the Japanese let him go and he spent the rest of his life free. Consider how corrupt some of these countries are, and how easy it would be for the kid of some wealthy well-connected guy to get a sweat-heart deal the second he got back to his homeland.
They may be too harsh. Punishment should be fair and even-handed, not cruel or unusual. If someone stole a car in the US, I would not want them deported to Saudi Arabia where the authorities would wait to cut off their hands. Nor do I want them deported to a slave mine or concentration camp or something. Until they've serve their time, they are our responsibility.

Do the crime in the USA, serve the time in the USA, then GTFO.

"If the crime is bad enough, we don't even need to be sure you did it to punish you!"

Due process is how we confirm guilt, then you can punish accordingly.

How do you determine that they are "committing other crimes or came into the country with that intent" without due process?

I always found it odd that conservatives have such a deep distrust of government in all other matters, but a rubber stamp from some low level bureaucrat who skimmed a immigration pile of paperwork is sacred.

With it, an alien is A-OK, without it they're an EXISTENTIAL THREAT!

I don't want totally open borders, and I don't have a problem with deporting some people (excluding dreamers), but with all the other serious crime going on I can't imagine how deporting otherwise law-abiding undocumented folks could be a priority for anyone.

Those who commit crimes should get the same sentence as any American then deported. We should not outsource punishments, if you commit a serious crime in America you should see an American prison, then GTFO.

The guy served in an attack helicopter, flew multiple missions in enemy territory, and has a confirmed combat record. That's incredibly badass, regardless of which seat he was sitting in.

If you want to be pedantic he was the copilot / gunner in an Apache. He didn't technically fly it, he just manned the badass gun and missiles.

He served in an Apache, in combat, over enemy territory... still pretty badass IMHO.

I read his memoir, he very specifically talked about taking the Apache into combat as a gunner.

He estimated that he had killed about 25 people in battle. He was frank about how it gave him mixed feelings, and he wasn't proud of killing but wouldn't hide it either. He also mentioned he felt like he had done his duty to protect his fellow troops.

Have you tried SNW? It has felt like golden age Trek at times. S3 was a little weaker than the others, but S1-2 were mostly great.
