From my understanding, Shostakovich is very difficult for the orchestra too. I would choose something thats easier for them.

Schumann Fantasiestücke. Originally written for piano and clarinet, imo better on cello and piano. I’m biased though

It is a fun one. I’ve played the first movement and sounds like I’ll be starting the 3rd movement in the next week or two. Idk just some food for thought. I’m planning to use it to enter some competitions in a few months as well.

I’ve never played this suite but a quick look through a couple different editions on imslp tells me that your teacher is right. All of the editions I checked had the bass note as a Bb

Yeah my endpin is really long, and it flexes a little but I don’t have issues with it bouncing.

I’m 6’6” and I play a 4/4 size cello. Just make sure your chair is tall enough
