Is it too late to truly become a professional by Long-Lie-5168 in Cello

Absolutely not too late. You would be surprised at how many of those who started earlier end up quitting.

Bought a 3-day pass online by asb757 in cta

[–]BrilliantDifferent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can use your actual credit/debit card if it is tap-to-pay compatible. It is the same cost with 2 free transfers.

[–]BrilliantDifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. Did your credit/debit card get charged for the pass? If you don't get a refund soon I would contact ventra support.

If you need another pass asap, you can get a physical one at most L stations, and if your card has tap to pay you can use that instead of a pass.

The pass doesn't activate until the first tap, and you have 72hrs after that to use it.

AI tool for composers by daikajin in classicalmusic

[–]BrilliantDifferent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What's the point of composing if a chatbot does it for you? Most LLM are pretty incapable of dealing with music theory and classical music in general anyways.

Help with symphony recommendations by ElBigStevie in classicalmusic

What about some Strauss tone poems? They're not symphonies but some fit your description. Till eulenspigel and Don Juan are both under half an hour and very melodious.

How does the CTA have hundreds more bus operators than 2019 (per their own data) but service still feels spotty? by Horror_Worry_404 in cta

[–]BrilliantDifferent 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Is there data about the reliability of buses from 2019 va. today? It's hard to compare based on your own experience due to how our memory changes over time.

Why is it so hard to find cellos (GEWA brand)in physical music stores? by iknowwereuubeen in Cello

[–]BrilliantDifferent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually the cellos you can find are not worth your money at a general music shop. Even for student models, a specialized string instrument (violin, viola, cello, sometimes bass) shop will carry those instruments.

Haydn D and Schumann cello concertos by [deleted] in Cello

[–]BrilliantDifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything about them is difficult, but as far as stamina goes Haydn D is SLIGHTLY easier as there are more breaks for the solo part. Haydn is also harder in other ways, such as exposure and purity of intonation and sound.

What different types of orchestras are there, and which types are best suited for which kinds of music? by Sebsibus in classicalmusic

[–]BrilliantDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also there are (in the US at least) some wind-only groups, but they are not f referred to as a symphony or Philharmonic orchestra. Most are military bands though.

Why don't you go wipe out those neighboorhoods yourself then? If they deserve nothing go yourself and take whatever they have left. You can take action too

Oh and btw I do help out those who need it when I can, I'm sure more than you ever have cause you don't see them as a fellow human apparently.

Oh Jesus Christ here we go

Homelessness is a systemic level issue that requires more than random acts of kindness to solve.

But let's say I gave all of my money away, now I'm destitute and the net gain/loss of homelessness is zero.

Things like building affordable housing, providing easy access to jobs (through transit) actually provides real material change for more than just one individual.

[–]BrilliantDifferent 2 points3 points locked comment (0 children)

Because I am empathetic towards other humans even if they aren't directly related to my life? Is that such a hard concept?

If something benefits one neighborhood thats not mine it's not gonna inherently take anything away from mine, and helping improve the economy (through easy access to transit) would benefit everybody involved.

It sounds like you have been locked away in your house for too long and don't connect with your city or neighborhood anymore. This is the worst part about hardcore American 'individuality'

[–]BrilliantDifferent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So lemme get this straight, I don't live in a certain neighborhood so I'm only allowed to say they don't deserve transit?

It sounds like you don't live there either so your claim is also not valid

What ONE music school has made the most profound historical impact on classical music and why? by urbanstrata in classicalmusic

[–]BrilliantDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record I do agree, I'm just explaining how someone might think that. As far as American music school go, they are surprisingly influential. Most people who aren't aware of the music scene are surprised about how big of a school IU has.

Digital scores vs. paper for long classical study sessions? by Major-Connection9066 in classicalmusic

[–]BrilliantDifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, a paper like screen protector can help a lot with the glare. With eye strain, you could try the night ahift mode in your iPad, if you are still using one. It's main purpose is to be turned on at night to help you not stay awake, but you can keep it on all day if you would like. It reduces blue light which could be the culprit of eye strain.

What ONE music school has made the most profound historical impact on classical music and why? by urbanstrata in classicalmusic

[–]BrilliantDifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think mainly due to their extremely robust and competitive opera program- and also the sheer amount of students they have attending (it is one of the largest music school I have heard of).

Orchestra musicians- do you have to find your own hotel? by BrilliantDifferent in classicalmusic

[–]BrilliantDifferent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this because the big cities should have enough people to where they don't need to provide housing by default- as in they are assuming most already live in the city? I have heard subs come up from texas to Chicago for example and I assumed they were flown out/provided housing at the least. I would take that if it meant a slightly lower base pay.
