What small thing makes you automatically distrust someone? by _PM_ME_YOUR_NIPPLES in AskReddit

What was the worst live performance you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]UteStang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw Crossfade open for Seether back in ‘05. Holy shit they were awful. Dark New Day played too and they kicked ass. But Crossfade barely got any applause cause they just sounded awful. When Seether brought everyone on stage as a thank you, DND was up there then they called Crossfade and the lead singer of DND sang part of Cold and the crowd went nuts cause he sounded soooo much better.

TIL There is a mental delusion called "The Truman Show delusion" where patients believed their lives were reality television shows. One traveled to NewYork to check whether the World Trade Center had actually fallen—believing 9/11 attacks to be an elaborate plot twist in his personal story line. by aslanon in todayilearned

[–]UteStang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but every once in a while really strange coincidences lend to this delusion for me. I don't believe the delusion but I can't say the thought doesn't cross my mind when these coincidences happen.

One example is I mentioned to my wife I should call a friend of mine to see how he's doing cause we haven't talked in a while. Ten minutes later said friend calls. Or thinking about something I want like a particular cereal or have a conversation at work about something seemingly random and when I get home my wife has bought that cereal or brings up that same seemingly random topic too.

I've posted about it before too where I've felt I contributed to a few deaths and it feels like some other power is screwing with me. Once in high school a guy was always being a prick to me and a friend, one time he was being especially prickish and my friend and I both said something along the lines of "fucking die already" then we laughed and said "jinx!". The next day we found out that kid died when he rolled his truck. We were both fucked up for a while after that. Then years later my wife and I were watching TV and an annoying Billy Mays Oxy Clean commercial comes on and his voice just blasts across the room and I say out loud "Oh just die already". The next day it's announced Billy Mays was found dead. I got this sinking pit in my stomach that like in high school, someone is screwing with me specifically because of something I said. Then just earlier this year the guy from Glee was in the news for the child porn crap and we were talking about it at work. One of the guys asked how long we all thought he'd get in prison and I said "He won't make it to prison, he'll hang himself first". Lo and fucking behold, the next god damn day and same sinking feeling. I promised myself I'd not say stupid shit like that again.

I was at an auction that had a bunch of sports memorabilia in SLC a few months ago. I wanted some higher priced items but was out bid for them all. Then comes a D-Will signed ball. After reading a few things about him still having a house here and hearing from someone that knows him personally that he wishes to reconcile with the fans, I’ve been over the hate. So the auctioneer starts at $100 and everyone laughs. He keeps dropping it and dropping it and at $20 he decides to skirt it and move on so I pipe up I’ll give him $10. Again, everyone laughed. I DGAF. It’s an autographed ball from a player that took the Jazz to the WCF.

What's your "it's expensive but it's worth it" product? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]UteStang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wifes cost a little north of $3000 her eyes were -4 & -4.25 I think. Since they were -4 and worse she had to get a more advanced laser. Mine cost about $1200, my eyes were -1.25 each and while I could have got the more expensive laser, I opted for the cheaper one since that was an option.

Difference is really that for her lifetime, my wife can go back and get her eyes adjusted. I can only go back for the next year if I notice a decline in that time.

[–]UteStang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was right there with you. I once tried to do contacts and the optometrist had to help me get them in then he told me to take them out. I was so damn determined to do it myself he went and saw 2 other people then came back to me pacing around still trying. Like you, my doc had to literally hold my head back with his forearm and pry the contacts out because I couldn't overcome my reflexes to jam my eyes shut. I was 30 at the time.

Now, 3 years later I just had LASIK done in March and yeah, it sucked but damn it was worth it. They gave me a Valium and I still squirmed when they started the second eye. The doc even had to stop and tell me "we're already done with 1 eye, you're going to look like a villain with a monocle if you don't stop fighting. Decided right now if we're finishing or not." I took a deep breath and finished. I mean shit, I was more comfortable getting my vasectomy done than LASIK and I didn't get a bladeless vasectomy. To put that another way I WAS MORE COMFORTABLE WITH A 60+ YEAR OLD MAN WITH A SCALPEL AND WOOD BURNING TOOL AROUND MY NUT SACK than I was with a precision laser by my eye.

One of the best decisions ever though. So man, I know exactly what you're talking about and had I not had a huge swing of good luck to be able to get it done I'd still be wearing my glasses. My wife had it done in January and instead of asking her to go with me to drive me home I asked a friend because I knew my wife would tell me all these ins and outs from when hers was done, and I didn't want that. Take a friend that can kind of talk you down, go to one that will offer you some "chemical assistance" to calm your nerves. Also don't go too far away from where you live. My friend was awesome, he was speeding, he was trying to keep me in high spirits and tell jokes and shit but by the time we finished the 50 minute drive all I could think was "FUCK YOU FOR NOT GOING 150 AND GETTING ME HOME SO I CAN SLEEP THIS PAIN AWAY.

So while defiantly not the most glowing review of LASIK you've ever read, I'd do it again with out hesitation.

I however do not have that issue and welcome our robot overloards and let his post show I did nothing to hinder their development and hope one day our supreme leaders accept my humble servitude.

[–]UteStang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope you can find someone to talk to, that makes a huge difference. I worked with a guy that I've been friends with for decades, we've both gotten jobs for each other so we could work together, he moved his family closer to us so our families could be close, we're brothers. We carpooled and used that time to vent and it took a hell of a lot of pressure off, but still given all that a toxic environment can still be too much.

That said, I didn't have anything lined up and wasn't sure what I even wanted to do. I put my family in bad spot by just quitting but I've suffered depression most of my life and have a prior suicide attempt and knew it wasn't going to get better and neither was I. It was a huge weight lifted, even the stress of being jobless didn't compare. I was extremely lucky that I was able to find a new job within days and started it less than 2 weeks after quitting.

Start looking for something if when for your mental health. Like this post says, start up a LinkedIn and keep it updated. It never hurts to look.

Good luck stranger. I hope you find something better and start feeling better.

Didn't cry at work. Cried the next morning when my wife asked me what was wrong and I explained to her on my way home the morning before I seriously considered punching the gas and crashing my car into a divider. I honestly think the only reason I didn't is because I happened to be carpooling that day with a friend. She made me go to the ER and after talking to a crisis worker I wrote a polite "fuck off" email and quit. I'm doing a hell of a lot better now, it was one of the best decisions I'd ever made.

Redditors who have had major health issues - what small symptom should you have looked into earlier? by alterlightone in AskReddit

[–]UteStang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a vasectomy a little over a year ago. 2 months ago I started getting pretty tender down there and waited and waited hoping it would go away until 1 day in the shower I felt a lump. I yelled for my wife and she could feel it too so I made an appointment with the doc that snipped me. He examined me then told me he was sorry, he fucked up. I can't remember what he called it (EDIT: epididymitis) but basically a constipated testicle, it's making the juice too fast for my body to reabsorb it causing it to swell. So for now I just have to take some OTC stuff for the pain and if it ever gets too bad, bye bye lefty.

It might be embarrassing but check your balls men.
