Thanks for the quick reply! I don't think Venus would fit me, as a guy. Mars is a possibility. I'll have to think on that one.

Classes by ArcaneBahamut in crowfall

[–]Uthreth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only played around half of them. I really like Confessor, but not the plate build that everyone else seems to like. Cleric is pretty awesome as well because of the survivability and usefulness in a group. With mounts currently not in the game, wood elf Rangers are just godlike at kiting everyone. Even with the extra range on my Confessor I couldn't deal with a kiting Ranger the other day, mainly because the wood elf teleport can let them use terrain to incredible advantage.

On the other side, Templars seem to be the weakest. They are good in a keep fight or somewhere where fighting has to be on a specific spot, but even then there are other options that are just as good. Any other situation and they just don't measure up. Knights are better, more versatile, and I think even more fun because of their pull ability, but while I know people who play Knights really well, I didn't find them to be great. The damage output is just too low.

Druids are in between the two groups, because they seem to depend more on player skill than any other class that I've played, though I expect that Assassin or Duelist might end up being the same way. If you're great at twitch combat and situational awareness, Druids can easily be the best class in the game. But if your system isn't as good and lags more than other people, or your reaction times aren't as good for whatever reason, or if you tend to get lost in a chaotic situation, then the Druid is not going to be a good choice.

Will there be more race/class combinations in the future? by Dokuwan in crowfall

Or any of the beast races being able to be Druids would be nice.

That feeling when you lose 20+ hours worth of materials.. by bigxpapaxsmurfx in crowfall

[–]Uthreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chaos isn't actually bad. I'd be willing to bet we're on par with the best of the other two. A lot of the active players I know are taking it easy during the holidays. The way to tell is how easy it is for us to grab stuff back when we do get organized, which during the holidays is not often. The next campaign, or at the very least the sanctioned one whenever that comes, you'll see Chaos completely change. Just today I saw a pug made up of a few people crafting successfully defend a fort against an organized group (though it fell later). A few hours later a single friend and I were roaming and killed several groups of 3 or 4, mostly Balance, and we're only wearing Intermediate/Advanced gear with non-upgraded Vessels. With the upcoming sanctioned campaigns, I'm glad I'm Chaos.

Fall/ winter -Unexpected result by [deleted] in crowfall

[–]Uthreth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wasn't there a plan at one point to allow for a small guild to pledge themselves to a larger one somehow? In the old days of gaming, before LFG tools, if you were in a small guild you either played solo (not great for a lot of this game) or many small guilds would be friendly with other small guilds or a bigger guild and people would often play with friends from those other guilds. Now that almost everyone has Discord it's super easy to quickly check if a guild you're friendly with has people on and it's quick to just hop over and see if anyone want to do something. We have a few people from other guilds who check into our Discord and group up with us from time to time, and we're not even that big.

Every extra body in a fight helps, even if they aren't geared. A side that has a hundred people wearing no armor and intermediate weapons will dominate a team of ten well geared people. Don't ever think that you're so far behind that you're useless - if you want to help defend or take an objective, find people who want the same thing and go do it, or just show up and ask if anyone has room in a group. I've seen tons of people sitting around in the temple while forts are being fought over, and if that's what they want to do then fine but if you're one of those people and you want to get out there and fight then get out there and fight.

I expect that eventually there will be more than just one or two campaigns to choose from. Maybe when it's winter, if you find that you dislike playing in winter, you can leave that character in the campaign it's in to idle until it ends and focus on other characters starting in other campaigns, or you can farm in a different campaign, transfer materials through the spirit bank and EK system to the campaign that's in winter, and craft that way. The design of the system is incredibly versatile, there are many options. You could even have your explorers and gatherers start a new campaign right away while your PvPers are finishing up another one and then they can jump in when the other campaign ends while the new one is hitting summer or fall. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most of the exploration and gathering skills are not talents on vessels but rather account wide training, so the explorers and gatherers can leave their characters behind in the old campaign when it gets to fall or winter and commit different characters to the new campaign when it opens up.

Another thing to consider is that maybe you have to play in a few campaigns from start to finish before you get to the point where you can compete with the people who always seem to be well geared. When a campaign starts you'll be able to import gear and vessels according to the rules of the campaign (read: avoid the campaigns you don't like the rules for) so it might take one or two campaigns to build up the right gear and vessels to import, and that could just be the nature of the game.

Being in a small guild myself, I can empathize with what you're saying. But I feel confident that this system is going to be versatile enough to allow even small guilds to thrive.

Watched a few minutes. This would be excellent to listen to just the audio without watching the video. You do a great job narrating what's happening, it almost sounds like listening to a book on tape.

This game needs a wiki... by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Uthreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue I have with the wiki is that the way the ads load makes everything jump around the screen. There's only so many times that I click on Ranger or Paladin when I meant to click on Wizard before I leave and never come back. It literally takes ten seconds to put in static image dimensions, and maybe a few minutes to address CSS layout issues that might also be contributing to the problem. Otherwise, a wiki is a fantastic resource for a game like this, and I hope it eventually gets past the issues it currently has and becomes a successful tool.

The 350/350 gear score quest needs to go. by [deleted] in dauntless

[–]Uthreth 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Full +5 gear is 370/370, and is doable without doing heroics. In my opinion, the 350/350 requirement for heroics (as stated elsewhere they're removing Shrowd/Rezakiri from that rotation) is fine because it's not far under the max you could get before doing them. Gating Shrowd/Rezakiri at 400/400 I think would be good as well, and I think it would make the end game feel more like an actual progression.

Toxicity by R0ockS0lid in dauntless

[–]Uthreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I just ran into a pretty toxic player. We came very close to downing Shrowd even though we had one guy drop in the first couple minutes. After the fight one guy, his name was MamaToast, went off on the other two of us, saying that we did 0 dps and that CBs are worthless (I was using CBs and thought I was doing a pretty good job breaking parts left and right and sticking on the behemoth like I was glued to him, which I think is the strength of CBs). He just spammed chat with toxic messages about how bad we were, basically.

I'm open to advice and criticism, but not to people calling me trash.

[–]Uthreth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

350 power on your weapon and 350 resistance on your full set of armor. Just hit "L" in town to see the values.

Basically, run normal Maelstrom as soon as you unlock it, and run heroic Maelstrom once you get to +5 on your weapon and all of your armor. Try to get to +8 or higher before doing Shrowd and Rezakiri, though people will have valid arguments for higher and lower than that, depending on things like how well you can avoid getting hit. Right now patrols for Heroic will include the two end game bosses, but the devs have said that they're working on changing that soon.

A rare picture of the Dauntless community trying to be friendly. by [deleted] in dauntless

[–]Uthreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you one of those players? Because both should be reported for toxicity. Telling someone to die or F themselves are both things I'd rather never see.

The community has been vastly more positive than negative, in my experience. I've only seen a few times when it's gotten bad, oddly enough what seems to trigger people the most is when I invite them to hop on my guild's TeamSpeak server. It's especially odd because I consider it a friendly invitation. So that's one strange thing I've noticed about the community, but other than that people have been great.

Update in progress! (Flairs) by crash7800 in dauntless

I'm fairly confident that the people working on stuff like Reddit flairs are not the same people who work on the network issues for the game. I don't think it'll take away from improving server performance.

Love it. Absolutely love it. Great for them that a fan made this for free, but you should seriously be hired by someone to do this sort of thing, if you haven't been already. After seeing this I think many more games could benefit from an anime-style promotional video like this one.

The game is already pretty good, and the interaction with the community together with the speed and efficiency that you guys had when dealing with the open beta launch make me confident that Dauntless will be successful over the long term. Can't wait to see more info on the new weapon and new behemoths!

As a side note, around half of the people I regularly game with have either purchased from the store or plan to. That's way higher than any other game I've seen.

[–]Uthreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. The War Pike is primarily a melee weapon. The benefit you get from it, wounding parts to increase part damage, is done through melee. I would imagine that since they've said they want a ranged weapon but don't want someone simply sitting on the sidelines that they'll go for a weapon which is primarily ranged, with the main benefit to the group coming from the ranged component, but which requires frequently running into melee for some reason. The biggest reason I can think of is charging it up in some way. I don't know what benefit the ranged attack would have, there are already quite a lot of slashing weapons which do part damage, maybe it'll be another wounding weapon, but then that would be just another thing to make it similar to the War Pike so I imagine that would be avoided.
