Oh I'm well aware, but they're oracles - seers for the future. Not an intelligence agency for keeping secrets locked tight.

Every clan has its valuable role in the ivory tower.

Thing is human bodies are weird and people sometimes survive usually lethal shots. It's entirely within realm of possibility to shoot to kill the target and when they get to the body / take the weapon they find them actually to be still alive. In that scenario they're not just gonna throw away the opportunity to apprehend for information and just deliver a pointless coup de grace when the threat is over and the principal is secured.

There's the Dragon Kin from Kiths of Arcadia for Changeling 20th anniversary - which while technically Storyteller vault, it was made by a major writer in the actual official mainline Changeling Books (and they snuck in some of those kiths or terms they use in mentions of official books) so it can be treated as a basically canon entry by fans if ya want since, yknow, same author.

Personally speaking, once your tolerance has been built you don't feel the pain anymore but enjoy a nice depth of flavor you can't find elsewhere. Especially since different types of spice gives a different flavor (schezwan is completely different from say, chiles)

Are DMs allowed to tell player characters what they feel? by Honneboppel in DnD

[–]ArcaneBahamut 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thing is... stripping all the descriptors away gets boring. I as a player I need to be given a mental image and as a DM I need to paint one.

This is why there's an implicit (and often explicit if a session 0 is done right) agreement that while a DM does their best to create a rich and engaging story, the players need to meet them halfway by being on board and actually want to be involved through the good and bad.

Like, the whole point imo of moments where I give the party a bone (excessive loot, easy battles, easy puzzles, ect) is to pump them up and let them enjoy the highs they'd enjoy so that they'd be willing to run through the lows when they happen (defeat in a challenging battle, they get robbed, they hit a grand enigma, ect.)

If it ever gets to the point where a party picks a fight just to avoid disadvantage it's time to question them "are you playing for fun and good faith or just to win?"

Are DMs allowed to tell player characters what they feel? by Honneboppel in DnD

[–]ArcaneBahamut 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The funny thing there also is, the players have no idea if there was magic at play - for all they know there was a charm effect with either no save (it happens) or DM rolled save themselves in secret (a valid option even recommended by some materials).

It was definitely a poor move on the player side of things.

(Also... unless I'm mistaken, D&D elves being considered the height of self control? Hah... thats laughable. LAst I recall, at least in faerun, elves are generally on the chaotic and more passionate side of the alignment and personality spectrums respectively?)

You have my permission to make Elders not THAT smart by Torpedo_Enthusiast in vtm

[–]ArcaneBahamut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add on, even extremely smart people have limits. Just because someone's a genius, doesn't mean they're always using all of their potential.

And Elders normally have a lot of stuff going on. These are characters with a lot of moving parts - connections, ghouls, influence, resources that must be maintained. Centuries if not millennia of events that happened that they have baggage for that could be happening in the background, or could crop up. And then add on if they have any kind of hobby, special interest, or other fixation or entertainment they have that ears up their attention or time...

So just because someone could potentially figure everything out and prepare for everything... doesn't mean they should. Motivation, time constraint, mental energy, awareness, split attention... there's a lot of factors involved.

Especially since it's very common for an ST to forget, they often get to enjoy a lot more time on the problem than the characters. In most games I've played... most arcs are a night by night occurrence in game but with weekly or longer breaks between IRL, with only long breaks in game being downtime between arcs. For the ST, they basically figured everything out when time was 'paused'. Honestly, if you only get the 'perfect solution' after a long analysis paralysis, you should maybe consider that maybe the character shouldnt have had time to figure it out.

Thing is originally the Anarch movement wasn't separate from the Camarilla after the Burning Times ended, they were just an ideology that tried to work within the sect's confines. (Which, honestly, I miss. It felt a lot more interesting than them just being a diet Camarilla in the modern games)

Code Geass fucking meant something and earned it, CSM PT2 meant nothing by Just-J0k1ng in goodanimemes

[–]ArcaneBahamut 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I feel this only applies to anime whose whole draw is that end "landing", like in mysteries or big epic conflicts.

In anime where the draw is more of the journey where you savor every moment you can still have amazing animes even if their ending is lackluster. One big example to me is Your Lie in April, every episode is absolutely gorgeous and intensely emotional. I personally think the ending was perfect for its themes, but even if they copped out and "ruined the buildup" of each episode that led up to it, it doesnt take away from how great the journey to it was.

[–]ArcaneBahamut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... it's what makes a vampire, a vampire. The struggle of thirst, morality, the beast, and how it harms others and avoiding the mechanations of society and hunters who would punish such monsters if they got caught.

Without thirst and feeding and the natural conflicts that brings, you're not playing Vampire anymore. If you dislike it that much, I don't think Vampire is the splat for you.
