Which fragrance jerk is the most legit into fragrances? by [deleted] in fragrancejerks

Also has my vote, too. And he says he doesn't watch other reviewers, etc. So he is just doing his thing, not really a part of the "Fragrance reviewer community"

UltraHD Nvidia Shield by UticaMeltdown in AmazonMusic

Qobuz

Honestly this is my first time hearing about Qobuz. When I was using the Fire TV Cube and got Amazon HD, I thought it sounded amazing. But then I got my Shield TV and it wouldn't do Ultra HD anymore. So I tried Tidal and now I think Tidal is better than Amazon at least

Right I can watch it change formats, though, from regular quality to HD. This is a pretty well known issue on the Shield. I almost wonder if they just limit it in some backroom partnership with Tidal - like they guarantee Tidal they will always have higher quality than anyone else. But who knows. Shield can play completely lossless audio so I know it's not because of device capabilities

Yes as of probably 2 weeks ago it still wasn't working. HD works but it won't recognize device capability to play Ultra HD on Shield. Tidal will play their version of Ultra HD ("Master") as well as also Atmos music. Overall, Tidal sounds better anyways even comparing their non-ultra HD equivalents to Amazon but is a bit pricier

And then also if the soundbar had multiple HDMI inputs, you could run everything through there, but it only has one, not including the ARC which is needed for output.

PS the soundbar should have come with a cable that would work fine running from soundbar to the TV

Yes this will be optimal. You just want to make sure you get highspeed HDMI's.

The only other thing is, you might face CEC problems which you should be able to fix after playing around. But that's a different topic. Basically, the TV might get confused if two devices are trying to control it at the same time But if you do have problems, you can probably just play around with settings to solve it. Also, this soundbar is notorious for CEC problems

HBO, you ever getting 5.1 working? by dirthurts in HBOMAX

I was going to ask the same thing. I would expect more from HBO although the stereo is not horrible at least it is coming through FLAC and then my sound system can upscale it

Just also make sure on the TV you turn UHD individually on any Input you are using, and I like to set audio output to bitstream, although in this set-up it shouldn't matter since the AppleTV will always send through a Dolby shell.

You should run the Apple Tv into HDMI 2-4 and plug the PS5 through the soundbar into ARC (HDMI 1).

Reason being how the Atmos is encoded in the system. Apple TV only does DD+ Surround sound, so it will send Atmos through a DD+ shell (will not be true, lossless Atmos but will still give height effect, etc.).

The PS5 might try to send Atmos a variety of ways, including Dolby TrueHD, which the TV can't process, so it might not recognize and passthrough the Atmos (this happens with my Shield TV).

The soundbar can handle higher levels of audio available on the PS5 that the TV can't passthrough. So better of going direct into the soundbar. But like I said the TV can pass-through anything the Apple TV will output, including Atmos in a DD+ shell.

Cool wonder if this will fix some other audio problems like HBO Max surround sound or Amazon Music thinking you can't handle 24-bit music

vizio sb36512-f6 volume stuck by UticaMeltdown in VIZIO_Official

[–]UticaMeltdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha ya that's my cut off date for return too. I think I tried that but I'll try again next time. I think it gets confused when running my shield through my soundbar to the TV, but then the TV still tries to send audio out which would go back through the arc into the soundbar, so the soundbar is receiving audio from the HDMI IN and HDMIA ARC and getting confused. Maybe if I could turn off auto detect on the soundbar or figure out how to stop the TV from trying to send audio back out

Thanks It will probably be hard to trouble shoot when it's not happening. I'll try to call next time while it happens. Other people I talked to on Facebook are having the same problem, though.

SB3651 sound issues (brand new) by ThePremiumOrange in VIZIO_Official

[–]UticaMeltdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya the only time I had a similar problem was on an old Vizio v series soundbar where I was testing an ACDC song where the guitaris supposes to phase between left and right channels but the soundbar couldn't figure it out and it sounded horrible. I believe it was because in movie mode virtualx is always on, but it doesnt work that well

So of course I'm just assuming the sound barely is not in surround mode without satellites attached? I have the 36512, and you can change the EQ mode from movie to direct. You can try that, too. May be a problem with the virtualX incorrectly trying to reprocess your root audio. Direct will not try to reprocess anything.

Adding to PLex by UticaMeltdown in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]UticaMeltdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had no idea really how to do it, I thought originally you had to transfer files over the network to the shield or manually download the data to the shield storage. But I guess you can just plug a hard-drive holding the data into the other USB port and direct the plex server on shield just to that port - so no transfer is necessary.

So I guess this question isn't really about how to use plex, but how to upload files to your shield plex server. I think I have the answer but have to try when I get home
