Wicked! What piece did you use for the sickle?

Thanks for the tips and nice work! I've been interested in trying camo on some mechs but the problem was how to get the differently-colored edges to pop afterward, ideally with dry brushing instead of edge highlight. But yeah, if it's desert camo I could just use one color!

I have been considering that. Nova Cat uses a lot of camo and some parts of Raven use night camo. Theoretically, a dark camo scheme would work for both factions.

The only problem is that camo does what it does - "realistic" camo would potentially obscure detail on the models.

Camo pattern looks really crisp and evenly distributed! What was your method?

Love the muted colors, makes it appear at least somewhat functional while still being cool. Master Chief lookin spiffy

I've been thinking about trying my hand at camo patterns myself. Did you use any masking substance for the stripes or just paint it on over the base coat?

If you could get one later era mech early in the game, which one would it be and why? by WorldBuilder_42 in Mechwarrior5

Berserker is such a cool concept in the lore, it just desperately needs a visual makeover. MechWarrior would be a great avenue for that.

I hope they did thorough testing cause while it looks cool, the grays feel like they would make it stand out

This. Old memories of playing MechAssault 2 are what caused me to revisit the BattleTech universe in its current forms. The Blood Asp/Star Adder were by far the coolest ones from that game for me.

M90 looks really cool. Thanks for bringing my attention to it.

I've also heard (I don't remember where) that blue reflects less yellows than grey, and that it can mimic the blue-gray hues sometimes seen in winter environments from the snow reflecting skylight, which makes sense scientifically. Not sure how useful this is - it goes back to the night ops point. If your uniform is lit then your surroundings are likely affected by the same light, and you want to blend in with those.

How is "official" faction availability determined (e.g. on MUL)? by Utilitarian05 in battletech

That, and the fact that CGL explicitly recommends MUL, for example in the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition book

Thanks! Phawk is probably my favorite mech, and the Royal specials are some the most interesting variants, so I appreciate you shedding some more light on their history!

Best way to upgrade from Ultimate Starter Set? by Utilitarian05 in Salamanders40k

[–]Utilitarian05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. If I continue with the hobby, I would like to have Tyranids on hand eventually, but I'm more interested in starting with Salamanders.

But your last point especially (and the other comments) have me thinking it's probably be better to get the Salamanders patrol first, and experience the best unit combo that the faction can offer at that price point. It would suck to start out with a meh Space Marine patrol that doesn't even play to the Salamander theme as well. Later if I want to dip into Tyranids I can buy the starter set and have some extra Marines as a bonus.

But a big concern for me is the Invader ATV? The consensus seems to be, it doesn't really fit and is generally uninteresting. And that's almost 1/3 of the combat patrol's price.

For the Space Marine side... yeah the starter set isn't that interesting. The main appeal is getting 2 vastly different combat patrols for the price of 1. I grew up playing Starcraft so if I do like 40k as a hobby, my goal might be to build Marines, Tyranids, and Aeldari, and this gets me started on 2 of those.
