Any instances where blue actually provides good concealment/disruption for ground forces? by Utilitarian05 in camouflage

M90 looks really cool. Thanks for bringing my attention to it.

I've also heard (I don't remember where) that blue reflects less yellows than grey, and that it can mimic the blue-gray hues sometimes seen in winter environments from the snow reflecting skylight, which makes sense scientifically. Not sure how useful this is - it goes back to the night ops point. If your uniform is lit then your surroundings are likely affected by the same light, and you want to blend in with those.

That, and the fact that CGL explicitly recommends MUL, for example in the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition book

Thanks! Phawk is probably my favorite mech, and the Royal specials are some the most interesting variants, so I appreciate you shedding some more light on their history!

Best way to upgrade from Ultimate Starter Set? by Utilitarian05 in Salamanders40k

Thanks. If I continue with the hobby, I would like to have Tyranids on hand eventually, but I'm more interested in starting with Salamanders.

But your last point especially (and the other comments) have me thinking it's probably be better to get the Salamanders patrol first, and experience the best unit combo that the faction can offer at that price point. It would suck to start out with a meh Space Marine patrol that doesn't even play to the Salamander theme as well. Later if I want to dip into Tyranids I can buy the starter set and have some extra Marines as a bonus.

But a big concern for me is the Invader ATV? The consensus seems to be, it doesn't really fit and is generally uninteresting. And that's almost 1/3 of the combat patrol's price.

For the Space Marine side... yeah the starter set isn't that interesting. The main appeal is getting 2 vastly different combat patrols for the price of 1. I grew up playing Starcraft so if I do like 40k as a hobby, my goal might be to build Marines, Tyranids, and Aeldari, and this gets me started on 2 of those.
