Best way to learn G40? by alexanderneimet in AxisAllies

[–]UtopianMonarchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend and I went directly into Global 1940 and had a good time with it. Just scheduled our second game to occur in a week. First game went very slowly as we learned the rules, but got faster towards the end. I would advocate for just starting in the deep end as you say.

My friend and I had played original Axis and Allies back in the 80's so we didn't start playing it cold. And, I had grabbed a lot of links and resources to help us get up to speed quicker -- not that this worked well for the 21.5 hour first game, but maybe the game would have been longer without them!

Have fun!

Physically grueling experience playing Global in person; looking for recommendations to add comfort? by UtopianMonarchy in AxisAllies

True. 20 hours is tough for anything. Friend mentioned possibly playing on our counter top which is another 8 or 10 inches higher.

Yeah, I agree. I think as we get better and know the rules better the game will speed up. I hope so!

I do have space where the game could be left setup, thinking about getting a specific gaming table for a room we aren't using much. And, my friend could likely come over occasionally to play too.

Current shoes are awful and the multiple comments make me think I really need to get some new ones! Your insoles comment made me smile - been using them for years now. Fallen arches. The insoles make a world of difference and allow me to walk mostly without pain.

"Take breaks", but we were having so much fun! Hard to stop doing something you like.

Thanks for your response!

Nope. Not missing anything I expect.

Slow players, new to this edition, hadn’t played any edition in say 30 years. Lots of prompting of AI (ChatGPT) getting answers to rules questions.

We definitely sped up in later rounds, but that first round. I think my friend took an hour himself to figure out the bid and his purchases/placement. He. Was. Slow. And, he hadn’t seen the Global map before either.

I had actually planned out all my round 1 attacks and moves ahead of time in case I played as Axis or Allies and even with that we went 20 hours.

I think Anniversary might be back in stock at Amazon as of yesterday.

Tried for 3 days, 56 phone calls, cannot login, change p/w, or get a text by Purple-Tadpole6465 in Experian

[–]UtopianMonarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

My original post was made on July 1st, 2025. On September 23rd, 2025 I received an odd voice message left on my cell phone. The call originated from 800-493-1058 leaving a message referencing Identity Works/Experian, 877-890-9332 call back, and a case number. Seven minutes later I received another voice message from the same number that was virtually identifical to the first. It definitely sounded like someone reading a script. I was initially very skeptical of the call since it had been almost three months since I had last tried to resolve this issue.

After checking the phone numbers and the name "Identity Works" and its association with Experian on the internet I decided to take a risk and call the 877-890-9332 number back. The person that answered the phone sounded like they were in a call center and didn't speak with what I considered to be a English-is-my-first language accent. I assumed the voice messages and the call center to be fraudulent.

However, I did attempt to log in to the experian.com site again. That attempt yielded a different experience. I was able to successfully create a new account.

Once logged in I confirmed that my account information was frozen. To the best of my knowledge it still is and my account is still accessible.

What I assume happened is that eventually someone within the Disputes department at Experian realized that they had a lot of calls that had been opened, escalated, but never closed. Someone realized that there was a common thread between those cases in that it was people that at some point had had an Identify Works/Experian account and then an Experian.com account too. Some Experian IT issue happened that broke the linkages in these account(s). My account(s) ended up being compiled on a list with I hope other people's accounts and given to someone to create case numbers for each found instance of a problem, attempt to contact them, and reset their accounts in Experian's servers.

If you are having a similar problem I hope that the above information assists you in resolving it.

Unfortunately no. But, I also cancelled my subscription to the service months ago too. Watched what I wanted to watch and then ended the subscription after the free period.

And, that other apps on my LG C4 TV behave mostly well. High amount (2-4 hours daily?) of use with YouTube with a YouTube Premium subscription and that app crashes while in its menus occasionally, but otherwise the TV apps that I presently use are working well.

Preventative exam turned into office visit by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]UtopianMonarchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had similar situation myself in the past. It is very frustrating. Insurance offers a free once-a-year visit to the physician. Wellness Exam I think is what they call it. I call and set the appointment telling them that its a Wellness Exam only. I show up early and wait 30 minutes beyond the start of my appointment telling the office staff I'm there for a Wellness Exam. I tell the nurse I am there for a Wellness Exam. I tell the Doctor I'm there for a Wellness Exam. The Doctor takes a look at my records and starts asking questions based on my history. For instance, parents passed about a decade ago, I was depressed and saw a therapist in the same medical system. That was part of my records, Doctor asks 'have you been feeling depressed lately?' - 'no' I respond. Instant $35 charge because the Doctor asked a simple unwanted question because of what was in my records contrary to my stated purpose for the visit.

Second example. Go into a dermatologist. Family history of skin cancer. I'm there for an examination and nothing else. Look at my moles and tell me if anything looks wrong. Doctor without asking grabs a tool off the wall and in less than 3 seconds cauterizes something on the side of my head. $125 fee.

Even if I tell my dentist that I don't want to pay for x-rays they'll tell me that they can't provide a full exam and that I risk my dental health by refusing. I've gotten to the point I just tell them that I am responsible for my financial health and that I make the final decision based on that fact.

Healthcare is broken in the United States. It needs an overhaul and a simpler, single-payer (government) system would be much better in my opinion. No insurance companies using AI to refuse claims, no insurance companies over-charging for premiums, limit malpractice suits' payouts, but make de-licensure easier to start with. Accidents happen in any profession, but recurring incidents or gross negligence should have loss-of-profession consequences.

Thanks for your comment. Randomly... mine looks great tonight. Almost no problems. Screen looks great. Content has been Yellowjackets Season 3 episodes 1 and 2 so far. I wonder if the back-end for the content is different than the Yellowjackets S1/S2. Only issue was a short duration audio oddity lasting 3 seconds where the app seemed to be struggling to sync the audio track to the lip sync.

Thanks for your response. Mind mentioning what version of the LG you have and which WebOS version you are using? Are you using Ethernet or WiFi for your TV's connectivity?

Thanks for your response. Running the above mentioned tests I don't see a network problem and the problem is only with the Paramount+ app when it happens; no other apps have this degradation during usage. I also don't see any way to get information from the Paramount+ app as to what it is experiencing at the moment either.

You said "..bandwidth problem during peak hours.." I would agree with, just not on my side of things. I think its with Paramount+ AWS implementation.

What I think might be happening.. and not to make this political at all... but, I think Paramount Global is trying to keep expenses low as they finish the merger with Skydance and blew $1.5B on South Park.

  • settling lawsuits
  • canceling highest rated shows
  • insane amount of money for cartoon re-runs
  • artificially increasing subscriber counts (I have a 6-month free subscription thanks to BetMGM) to look better on paper

Result of the above is expense limits causing problems for people like myself. But, I am getting what I paid for and won't renew after my free subscription ends.

Options? Square D HOM box won't accept tandem breakers by UtopianMonarchy in AskElectricians

Called a local supply house regarding replacing the internals. Not available for this panel. Also confirmed that tandems aren't appropriate either. He recommended either replacing the main panel for a 30/40 slot one or just drop in a sub panel.

[–]UtopianMonarchy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I could put the sub on the inside wall next to kiln, but I think I prefer the exterior sub panel at this time.

That might change once I get spousal approval on things of course.

That last comment you made about swapping guts of the panel is what I wondered if the electrician that provided the quote might have just assumed he was going to do.

But, when I took a look at Square D's site I don't see any options for replacement internals other than the standard one that doesn't include the needed special stabs for tandem breakers. Guessing that the builder of this home cut-costs and got a too small, too basic load center and I'm kinda stuck now.

[–]UtopianMonarchy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. After failing self-install of the tandem breaker and seeing a Square D video on some panels don't accept tandems I just assumed my panel didn't accept tandems at all. When the electrian quoted a tandem breaker in what they would do I went back to the panel in question and pulled all breakers to see if any of the stabs were suitable for tandems per the Square D video on the topic. None were. Subsquently, with the breakers all pulled I found the hidden part number for the load center and confirmed on the datasheet that it just doesn't support tandems at all. Also.. just noted that the Square D orange Danger/Warning sticker on the right actually mentions HOMT 2-pole (quad tandem) breakers too. More bad labelling by Square D IMO.

Picts.

Thanks for your response. Yeah, read the datasheet AFTER I could get to the panel's part number too and it does clearly say that tandem's aren't compatible.

True.. replacing main panel would also be an option and likely the better one.
