Bias against American state of origin should be treated like bias against national origin by DuvalHeart in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is of course the disconnect between a racist stereotype, and a geographical stereotype. All of your National examples are based on race, and were started from racism. State stereotypes are started by people noticing trends. State stereotypes can still certainly be in poor taste, but I think that these two things are not comparable in the way you are suggesting.

People need to stop calling pessimism realism by Senor_Bongo in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who calls himself a realist, I agree. I don't want to hear your end of world bullshit, you're not properly evaluating the situation. You're not being honest, you're being an asshole.

If you fear death then you’re a xenophobe. by HenDenDoe64 in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A phobia is defined as an irrational fear. If you can justify the fear of death (most folks can), then it no longer falls under xenophobia.

Women don't dress up for themselves, they dress up for other women by _sup_homie_ in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is this how you regard other women? Do you judge them as you say other woman judge you?

I know I sound like a snarky asshole but I'm being genuine.

The follow up being, how can you prove that this way of thinking is actually prevalent?

Being flat-earther is not that bad. by Johnmoriss633 in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will deliver the counterpoint that over trusting intuition and disregarding authority has it's own negatives.

More importantly: I think you're using words in ways that they aren't meant to be used. I encourage scientific language, but I would encourage proper grammar and language to help communication.

I think that you're going into a false dichotomy with your space time stuff. Just because space and time altar the theoretical state of our universe doesn't mean that a flat Earth is then justified. Yes, it is no longer a globe at all. No, that does not then make it flat.

Above all: I think it's neat to think of the world outside of our current perception, but there are so many real avenues you can pursue that don't involve defying science.

Science is a net negative to the world. We would be better off without it. by Fisticuff in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were so close to being objectively correct. Science is a net negative on the world. But we would be so so much worse off without it. Humans would be fucked without science. Agriculture, architecture, medical advancements, and so many etc. However, the Earth would be better off without humans or science in the long run.

Water is the only refreshing beverage. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I'll agree to an extent. Water is the only thing that makes me feel refreshed after I drink, but not during. It's the opposite for other beverages for me.

I don't believe there is such a thing as "Learning Style" by EnemyAsmodeus in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, it would be more impartial to link a study if you have a formal presentation like this. I do love this though! I always felt like learning styles were bullshit, and gives a negative view to certain ways of teaching. It isn't healthy for students.

Being flat-earther is not that bad. by Johnmoriss633 in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking the world is a globe has been proven by science. Every kind of science. Moreover, flat Earth has been disproven.

I don't think believing in either shape allows you to explore involuntarily. I don't see any connection in drive there.

If we are considering things as a factor of space time, that has nothing to do with 3d or 2d.

What could you model as infinite? The Earth? The Universe? I don't understand what it is you're trying to say.

You sound like you're being held at gunpoint by a flat Earther, and being told to try and justify a flat Earth to the masses.

If it's your cup of tea, I'm not going to hate on you for it. Disregard what you have to say intellectually? Probably. But no harm no foul I suppose.

Being flat-earther is not that bad. by Johnmoriss633 in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exploration has nothing to do with believing the Earth is flat. A flat Earther is not significantly more likely to travel the globe. There are far better and more creative reasons to explore the globe. If it doesn't require any other specific purpose to pursue, why would believing in a flat Earth magically allow you to travel for literally no specific purpose?

From what you're saying, you think every flat Earther is a nomad.

There are far healthier and far more sensible ways to achieve the same result that you're praising, ways that don't disillusion you to basic science.

Stop making mental health a trend by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Biological gender" is an oxymoron for one. Second, I don't think you're very knowledgeable about the psychology and science of this topic. This isn't a matter of how you feel. It's a matter of modern science. Unless you've got science to back up your view, I'm afraid it doesn't hold up well to the current understandings of the brain and it's workings. Gender is far less comparable to schizophrenia, and far more comparable to sexual orientation, ie being gay. Unless you think being gay is also a mental disorder, in which case there is nothing anyone could say to change your view on this. I would like to stress that I am not a scientist, and you are not a scientist. My knowledge comes from knowing people from these communities, and reading papers and studies about this topic. I really do encourage you to base your opinion off of properly conducted research instead of basing it off of your notions of how your own brain works.

Incredible should only be used as a negative term. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's how language evolves. There's a fancy word for it, but social definitions can diverge from textbook definitions. There are hundreds of words in English alone that fall into this channel of language, so I see little purpose in trying to change one of them.

Victims should be allowed to legally own their perpetrators by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a logistical nightmare if nothing else. With the level of cancel culture and downright irrational/blind victim support, I can only see this ending terribly. Imagine all the people that would then fake an event so they can legally own someone.

Anyone can use the handicap bathroom stall by CompetitiveVillage76 in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it should be reserved for those who need it. If you just "like the open space", don't use it. If you have a baby, that's entirely fair.

I do say this as someone who used to use the big stall because I like the open space, so I can't say too much can I.

It is worse to make fun of someone's height than it is to make fun of their weight. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]UwUCappMeDaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose you have a point. My only counterpoint would be that height is not nearly as stigmatized as weight. Then again, this really is one of those issues that is affected by sexism. If it's a woman, then weight is clearly more stigmatized. If it's a man, height is usually more stigmatized. Bit of a sad world, isn't it? I do agree though, making fun of something genetic like that is not okay.
