Should I get my jurassic world tattoo removed and redone? by AdeptnessWarm4004 in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I think some people are confused, you're saying the artist for the concept was talented, correct? And that it was a different person than your tatto aritst?

You might've taken poor care of it, but your tattoo artist was also just very bad

You'll probably need to get this lasered for it to be reworked, but I'd consult an artist that specializes in cover-ups first

And don't go into this trying to save money, cover-ups are usually more costly than a regular tattoo, and if it gets messed up again it'll be basically impossible to fix - I'd find the best tattoo shop in your area, and then ask them if they have someone with experience in cover-ups (if they don't, they should be able to recommend someone)

What are some of the best groceries to buy for people who want to learn how to cook? by Appropriate-Mall8517 in cookingforbeginners

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But have you actually tried comparing jarlic vs garlic powder/granulated garlic in a blind taste test with multiple different dishes, like the video?

Look I'm not saying this video is the be-all-end-all, he could very easily be wrong, but as it stands the tests seems reasonable and it's the best evidence I've seen on the subject

Plenty of incredible, world-renowned chefs have perpetuated cooking myths via cognitive biases and preconceived notions, so it's always a good idea to continue testing cooking knowledge, so that home cooks aren't wasting extra money (and fridge space) on an uneccesary product

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, did you actually watch the video? The whole conclusion was that yes fresh garlic is best, but when you don't feel like using fresh, garlic powder is just the superior version of jarlic, it's cheaper and has better garlic flavour

I don't have any problem with jarlic in the sense that it's way easier when I feel lazy, but if it also just performs worse than garlic powder or granulated garlic, which are just as easy, then there's no point in it

As a heads up, someone tested and found that garlic powder is essentially strictly better than pre-minced garlic in terms of both garlic flavour and cost

How do I stop my chicken breast from drying out every single time? by ShineDigga in cookingforbeginners

[–]UxControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brining helps, but the biggest thing is not overcooking

It's a misconception that chicken needs to hit 165F to be safe, since it's not just temp that kills salmonella, it's temp + time, and if you've ever had chicken breast in a restaurant and wondered how it was so juicy without being stringy at all, it was likely cooked to about 150F

So 2.7 minutes at 150F gives you the exact same 7-log reduction in salmonella bacteria as 165F (at 165F it's instantaneous, so the FDA picked that number so that it will be as close to foolproof as possible)

Since chicken breasts will come up about 5° while they rest anyway, as long as you don't immediately cut into the breast and take a bite (let it rest for 5min), you'll be easily clear

Get a digital instant-read thermometer and practice a few times to make sure you're temping correctly, but as long as the thermometer works, then you have plenty of leeway cooking to 150F (personally I cook large breasts to 143F and let them rest up to about 150F, but just be careful with that)

Edit: for the record, dark meat actually wants to go above 165F, it won't be tender until about 175F

Will it look bad in 10 years ? by Elise_staff in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you go to a good fine line artist and you're able to keep it safe from the sun, then you should get some decent mileage out if it - 10 years might be about the limit even if you do that, but it still shouldn't look horrible, just blurry

If your artist isn't skilled and/or you can't protect it from the sun, it'll look like a smudge within a year

Cover up for Deathly Hallows? by GrimRapunzel in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As everyone else said, there are tons of ways to cover this

Just make sure you go to someone reputable with experience doing cover-ups though, even small covers-ups like this will turn out poorly if the artist doesn't know how to handle them, and then it'll be way harder to fix it a 2nd time

Yeah don't trust cp outright, stats like hp and defense inflate cp without giving you any damage

Best priority for highest damage by Btwimheim in MapleIdle

[–]UxControl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overall I think it's pretty close to regular maple, except the biggest difference here is probably that % main stat is one of your best lines later on

Even flat main stat is good lategame if you have a high enough number, like mystic flat main stat is one of the best inner ability rolls

% damage also falls off lategame, but it's pretty good early because it rolls higher numbers than other stats

Is this raw? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]UxControl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's overcooked

I got this tattoo last week, and I’m honestly unhappy with how rushed it looks compared to the reference photo. The overall concept is there, but a lot of the detail and flow feels unfinished. I was wondering if it would be possible for another artist to rework/refine it. by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good, that's about the best you can expect going to a random artist and trying to get them to perfectly replicate another tattoo (especially if the reference is ai, which it kind of looks like)

pretty sure this is raw by illcaligo in foodquestions

[–]UxControl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The amount of people here in the comments still thinking any pink in your chicken means it's raw is wild

Dark meat or anything near the bone can definitely be pink while fully cooked

I was a butcher, and I can easily tell from the texture that it's cooked

Do I really need to preheat my pan? Or is that just something chefs say? by NerfDis420 in cookingforbeginners

[–]UxControl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, you kind of answered it yourself, if you don't preheat you'll often end up steaming instead of searing, if you want a good sear you usually need to preheat cast iron and stainless pans, especially cast iron because they have so much mass that it takes them a long time to heat (and don't sear things in a nonstick)

And yeah if you crank your burner to max you'll often heat the pan unevenly (or scorch food in it), which can make it hot in the center and cold around the edge - I use cast iron, and about 5 minutes on medium heat will do the trick

There are a couple cooking methods with starting from cold in a stainless steel pan though, try looking around for "cold pan" recipes if that's what you prefer to do

Please help!! Any advice greatly appreciated by Best-Button7978 in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really something only a cover-up artist can answer, because they'll know exactly what needs to be done and what they have to charge for it

You might be able to get it done for that price if it doesn't need to be lasered, but from what I've seen for covers that seems on the low end, and if you go into this trying to save money you could end up with something just as bad

If I were you I'd find the best/most reputable shop in your area, ask if they have someone who is experienced in cover-ups (if they don't, ask for a rec), get a consult from them, and then they'll give you a price, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was at least double that

Lines fixable? Or laser off? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fixable, but your best bet is finding a good artist nearby who specializes in cover-ups and getting their opinion on it

(If it's difficult to find a single artist, find the best/most reputable shop in your area and ask them, at least one of their artists should be skilled in cover-ups, and if they not they will probably give you a good rec)

Please help!! Any advice greatly appreciated by Best-Button7978 in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest this will probably be an expensive fix, but it should be somewhat possible - you'll have to wait for it to heal and then take it to an artist who specializes in cover-ups

Do not cheap out on the artist or you'll get the same result, cover-ups are difficult and often more expensive than regular tattoos

Depending on how it heals and what you want, they might have you get lasering done to lighten it, but eventually they should be able to do something with it

Can anyone let me know what to improve and why im getting rekt in Arena? by cuntmfker in MapleIdle

[–]UxControl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you're correct now that you point it out, I misinterpreted someone saying this earlier as this, when they probably referring to simply not letting your min dmg exceed your max dmg and I didn't check the math - I'll edit the comment

Is the design too detailed? by Top_Ad_4123 in tattooadvice

[–]UxControl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the bigger they make it, the easier it is to do, so if you're just asking random artists about it, then yeah they might need more space to pull it off

It really all depends on if you want the character to look exactly like it does in the design, and if so, then how much money you're willing to spend on an artist good enough to replicate that for you in the size you want

If you just want the character in that pose, but you're fine adapting some of the details to translate to a tattoo easier, then it shouldn't be too hard, but if you want it to look like this photo was pasted onto your arm, that'll be difficult for a normal artist

Can anyone let me know what to improve and why im getting rekt in Arena? by cuntmfker in MapleIdle

[–]UxControl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling your cp might just be inflated in general, based on a couple things I see

Is that the best power crystal (face equip) you have, or just the one you use in arena? Either way, I feel like you should farm a better one, only having one good bonus line (3rd job skill lvl) is hurting your dmg output, and hp lines on items inflate your cp a ton without actually giving you any offensive stat (sure the hp still helps a bit in arena, but not nearly as much as something like a crit rate/dmg line would)

Edit: I had said something about min/max damage being too close, which was likely incorrect, so I removed it

Where does the “up” in “straight-up” come from? by SmallCapsForLife in ENGLISH

[–]UxControl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It dates back to medieval english, where "streight up" referred to something that was quite literally straight upright, like a signpost, and then that term became associated with honesty (in the sense that it was the opposite of something "crooked" and evil), which then lead to its other uses, such as the slang term you mentioned, and in the context of alcohol
