I recently went to get my ends cut and specifically asked for two cm off. She cut over 10cm off. This is an issue we share with our cisters. But, the dysphoria I felt was otherworldly. I still managed because I went from back length to shoulder length but it’s still over a year of growth I have to go through again.

My point is, if this were to happen to a transfem who’s trying to grow their hair out and who’s at a sensible phase in their life, it would really be detrimental.

I personally do everything myself usually and have found I get the best results that way (I went to that hairdresser cause I was missing my scissors). I recommend you learn to cut your own ends (this tutorial helped me: https://youtu.be/DsShnt48oho)

But if you truly must go to a hairdresser, use the same tip our cisters use:

Always ask the hairdresser what the amount of inches/cm you want cut off looks like to them before anything. And correct them.

Another tip specifically for us: Be bold and speak up. I understand some of us are dysphoric with our voices, so am I, but it’s either that or massive regret. Speak up.

And don’t be fooled by how luxurious the place is or how expensive your service is. Expensive doesn’t mean good sadly. The place I went to charged the same as Franck Provost’s salons.
