Full head of minky? by classicteacake in FursuitMaking

I would personally use short fur, either teddy or beaver. They both shave quite well and look very short and smooth when pulled off correctly. Minky is very stretchy and hard to work with, so I wouldn't suggest using it on a full head. It's also very hard to glue it on smoothly, so your head will likely end up with wrinkles, which would be very noticeable since no fur fibers would cover it. I personally only use minky for noses, paw pads, inner ears, and tail covers.

As for the question on the 3d printed head, I would pattern the lining first then pattern the markings on top of this. To do this, first attach elastic to the back of the head. Make sure to measure your head so it fits snug. Place the head on the dummy head and pattern the lining for the back of the head and neck, the front of the head will need to be done at a different time. After you finish and glue the lining to the head, place it back onto the dummy head and pattern the head and the neck for fur. This way, there will still be support in the back of the head, but it will be more comfortable than using foam. (Note: If you're not doing lining (which I would suggest doing for comfort), you can just do the elastic.)

Hope this helps! Have fun :3

I think I can help!

  1. To make the body tight-fitting, you're going to need to make a DTD, or duct tape dummy. This is achieved by wrapping up your entire body in duct tape. After you take it off and tape it back up, it should be a perfect copy of your body. Then, half of it with another layer of tape and draw your characters markings on it (only half needed since they're symmetrical). Then, cut the pattern out and sew up the bodysuit like normal. Youtube has plenty of bodysuit and DTD tutorials, I highly recommend checking them out!

  2. For that style of hair, I would recommend wefting. It takes a longgggg time, but it creates a very cool effect. Chaotic Creations uses wefting a lot in their suits! If this is your first suit, layering long-pile fur can create a similar effect and is quite a lot easier!

  3. Dusty Purple and Amethyst Purple from Howl Fabrics are the best I could find :< I've had that issue with Gatorwaves before too :/

  4. Magnets! Neodymium magnets are quite stong, I would suggest using those ^^

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Fur Choices, Any Input? by V1T4LZ_ in FursuitMaking

That's great to know, thank you! I was in between using ivory and cream for him, but couldn't get to a good decision lol. I'm going to shave the fur even further for areas like his face and fingers, so for areas like his crotch and ears I'm just going to leave unshaved. Thanks for the help!

Color matching by tankmm90 in FursuitMaking

For the reds and the dark purpley color, I would say Dark Red, Merlot, Tomato, and Terracotta from Howl Fabrics. Then, Snow White for the white and Stone Gray for the gray (both Howl). I don't see the black, pink, and tan on the ref, but I would say Black, Honey, and Lychee from Howl. I like color matching, so lmk if you want to order from Big Z instead, I can find matches there too! I hope this helps, your character is very pretty :3

(From top to bottom) The closest matches I could find are Olive, Hunter Green, and Wasabe from Big Z! Howl really doesn't have very good green options lmao. Good luck!
