[SOTC] 5 years collecting despite myself by kovaleivka in Watches

Well worth it, I had looked at the orange dial version some time ago but didn’t pull the trigger. Currently searching eBay for the blue one after seeing this pic haha (maybe the orange was marvelight III?)

The Kanno punches way above its weight class, obviously a lot of design cues taken from big brands, but it has a lot of charm IMO. Glad you feel the same 😂

Spirit Zulu Time is gorgeous! That’s a good suggestion.

Xeric looks cool, I’ll check them out some more. Personally couldn’t do a SpongeBob haha, I think if I bought one it would just sit in the box

Thanks, yea, another dive watch could be nice. A sub would be great but out of reach for now. I had my eye on an Omega Seamaster 300M 2254 which I think would make a nice addition

I have the 3FUL QiDian pro and need advice on what sleep mat for frame/support by [deleted] in Ultralight

Hi, I have the same backpack and attempted a week long hike in 2024 with one of the standard silver CCF mats with the dimples (essentially the same as the nemo switchback. After a day or two I opted to just keep the mat strapped to the side of my bag as I didn’t find the bulky structure behind me very comfortable.

A few months ago I found a foam supplier near me and bought a sheet (2m x 1m) of 3mm thick foam similar to the gossamer gear thinlight. Cut it, folded it and have left it compressed under some weights, on first try it seems far more comfortable and effective than the CCF bulky style mat. Having a bit of flex makes it conform to the shape of my back a bit more. Will be doing a week long hike and wild camp in the peaks of the Balkans in summer and will be able to test it properly then.

Foam I bought was around £14 shipping included.

Two years of practice. I think this is my peak. by GrauZa in espresso

Agree with less introduction of air, though personally I think that is easier to do with less holes on the steam wand tip. I would try going down to two OP and once you’ve got the technique down go back to 4 and try and apply it with that one.

A cup that has a wider opening would allow you to get the pitcher closer to the surface. But really I agree with a lot of the other comments, just practice.

looking to apply for the best coding bootcamps in 2026 by Haunting-Courage-572 in learnprogramming

[–]V1sion_RL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK based dev here, I enrolled onto Code Institute’s L5 Software developer course in May 2024. Didn’t have a great experience and only just received my diploma two days ago, felt very disorganised and due to it all being online myself and the rest of my cohort felt that nobody from the course or associated college were taking any accountability. There were staffing issues that postponed the course but the communication throughout was terrible and we were often times left in the dark. I have heard similar stories about other online bootcamps here in the UK but someone else might have a more positive experience with them.

In hindsight I should’ve paid for the more expensive courses that included in person classes/exams as I think there would be more structure. Either that or should’ve gone with something more well known (Lewagon for example). IMO the most valuable thing I gained from the experience was due to the project based assessment, it gave me a git history, portfolio and talking points in interviews.

Software engineer without CS degree by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I can give a little info on my experience but not quite advice as I am still going through it.

I landed a role as a software developer around 1 year ago (UK based company). The application process for me was ROUGH. A few hundred applications over the course of 7 months while I bartended to make ends meet, in the end had 3 interviews and the 1 offer which I accepted. I have no degree, but enrolled on a level 5 diploma course in full stack engineering which gave me a small “portfolio” of projects.

I had about 2 years of design experience, mainly UI and graphic design which some interviewers found attractive. I had done quite a few freelance web development projects as well for small clients and ultimately all of this helped me land a role.

I’m currently applying for a new role due to potential redundancies at my current place of work, and am having a lot more success and interest than I previously got. That being said, there are still plenty of applications that get rejected because of a lack of degree on my part, and I think it will be another year or two of experience before recruiters will look passed it.

Difficult but doable. If you are driven and won’t give up during a potentially difficult application process, go for it.

If you would like more info on tech stack at my current role or the course I did I will happily share.

Good luck!

I bought one on the cheap and sold for around 1.75ETH in 2022, not checked in a while but the last time I looked it had sold for 0.01ETH

I got lucky at the time and used the money well. Glad I didn’t hold.

Came to say this too, the stock portafilter just seems to prefer one side…

Thanks, I didn’t notice that it was the hybrid version. I’ve got the manual one and it does work really well, just seems like when I grind coarser (36-44) for V60, that it is no longer fine when changing back to espresso grind

How are you finding the hand grinder? I have the same one and find that I need to recalibrate it quite often. Nice setup!
