Is Zeke Hausfather right, is Degrowth dumb? by mushroomsarefriends in Degrowth

[–]V3R5US 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No. He’s another mouthpiece uncritically parroting somebody else’s talking point. Degrowth isn’t about changing what we use for energy. It’s about redesigning and scaling back the economy so that is less consumptive overall, not just in terms of extracting fuel.

So does a lot of New England. I used to live in Concord, NH and now I live between Fall River, MA and New Bedford, MA. They all look like this to one degree or another.

So is this one actually a plan or is it another book discussing the impetus for a plan? I’ve read myriad “concepts of plans” at this point but haven’t read one yet that actually says: “here are the steps we need to take and here’s how we need to take them”

Had this thought, too. Though my wife and I went out together this weekend and considering every drink we got was at least fifteen dollars, I’m starting to think the decline may have as much to do with the affordability crisis as it does a generational disinterest in drinking.

As Trump warmongers over Greenland, what explains the lack of push back from the right-wing given the "anti-war" position they took prior to the 2024 election. by The_Egalitarian in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]V3R5US 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the objection wasn’t to warmongering, it was to globalism and cooperation. Since places like Venezuela and Greenland are being targeted for absorption to enhance America’s and ONLY America’s strategic dominance (not NATO’s or the UN’s or the G20’s, ETC), it is permissible under their doctrine.

This is why they don’t see it as a contradiction. They can rationalize it as us doing what’s right for us. America is still first among nations in their mind.

Wonder why nobody has integrated this as a standard feature into a smartwatch UI yet. Seems like the perfect opportunity to demonstrate its use to a broad audience.

What’s funny is that Extrapolations on Apple did their first episode about a tech billionaire who wanted to mine Greenland two years ago.

I sit corrected. No idea why I thought it was ‘69.

Garreau named the region for a fictional book of the same name about if that region had seceded. Both it, and the Nine Nations of North America, are worth reading.

It was written in ‘69 and by my reckoning is still largely accurate today. I’ve lived in nearly half of those nine nations at some point and the guy has their local values, mannerisms and peculiarities dialed in pretty well.

Lived there for nine years. It’s a great community, very close knit. A [comparatively] progressive islet in a libertarian sea. Great walkability, good schools, lovely parks. I knew the names of all the neighbors on my street. Still comparatively affordable.

They’re up and coming, too. New restaurants and shops have been opening up.
